Company Profile Mason Gray Strange South Australia was founded in 1980 In the years since, the Mason Gray Strange name has represented uncompromising service to industry & commerce around Australia. MGS is one of a handful of companies to be accredited panel auctioneers and valuers for the major financial institutions. MGS act on a regular basis for major banking institutions, insolvency, state and federal government, loss adjusters, accounting firms, major corporate companies, the legal profession & private clients. MGS conduct over 180 traditional auctions & 500 valuations per annum & are at the forefront of technology within the auction business, pioneering live online auctions for general plant & equipment in 2003. The demand for traditional auctions is still high, and in conjunction with our live online bidding, which has proven time and time again to be our edge. Whether you need assets valued or disposed of, MGS can help. We understand that each client has different needs & we can tailor a package to suit either in our rooms or onsite. Our client base is extensive having serviced many of Australia’s major corporations and constantly growing through our direct marketing channels and customer referrals. Behind The Name F. R. STRANGE PTY LTD
Strange was a Sydney based general auction house founded in 1912. Frederick Resolute Strange was born in 1853. His auction career began in 1882. Strange along with Lawson’s & JW Styles was one of Australia’s oldest auction houses.

Gray was a long established auction house. In 1959 it described itself as “The largest industrial & fine art auctioneering organisation in Australia”.

Noel Mason began in the auction industry in the 1940s working for JW Styles. He left in 1944 to join Fowles Auctions, rose to managing director. In 1970 he and associate Greene formed Mason Greene & Associates.

Mason Gray Strange was formed by the amalgamation of the 3 companies then owned by Industrial Equity Limited. Further partnership including C Codling & Co in 1985 rounded off the national firm. Making Mason Gray Strange the largest auctioneer & valuers of plant & equipment in Australia at that time. In 1990 Industry Equity Limited was sold to Adsteam. In 1991 Adsteam divested itself of a group of companies consequently C Codling & Co regained 100% ownership of the Mason Gray Strange name in SA. A and respected auction houses in Australia.

Membership Associations The Society of Auctioneers & Appraisers (MSAA) Inc. is the professional body representing the specialist interests of Auctioneers and Appraisers in South Australia. Members include Real Estate, Livestock and General Auctioneers & Appraisers through Nationally Accredited Training and Competitions. Our company is very well represented with 3 Master Members and 2 Practising Members. The Auctioneers & Valuers Association Australia Inc. (AVAA) is governed by a Constitution ratified by The Australian Securities and Investments Commission. The AVAA is an industry based, self-governing body. Membership is voluntary. MGS is a Corporate Member. The American Society of Appraisers (ASA) is one of the two largest valuation associations in the world. It requires members to complete and pass formal exams prior to acceptance as a candidate member. They operate a much larger market space and offer a range of opportunities to boraden our range of knowledge. The Australian Property Institute (API) was originally formed in 1926 as the Commonwealth Institute of Valuers. The API represents the interests of more than 8,600 property professionals throughout Australia. API members include: residential, plant and machinery valuers, property advisers and analysts, property fund and asset managers, property facility managers, property lawyers, and property researchers and academics.
