Who is Konftel?

2017

Konftel is a Swedish conference phone provider who cater to a worldwide clientele. They are best known for their OmniSound technology.

Konftel’s Question

Q:

What might the future of communication between organizations look like in 2030?

09

What is the future of technology? Investigating future tech such as VR, AR and MR tech would enable users to operate within their peripheral and focal vision as a canvas to work on all types of work tasks.

Smart phones restrict users’ ability to conduct work as a result of inefficiently small screen real estate.

?

? How do we bridge MR within multiple

?

workplace environments?

Mixed Reality MR was selected due to its ability to work seamlessly between the digital and analog environments.

11

64%

of working adults wear eye wear

Looking Glass’ core design was developed to accommodate these users who rely on their personal eye wear.

Majority of users glasses rest on the bridge of the nose, thus adding another device on the bridge would cause user irritation.

Similar to a tension fit headband, Looking Glass fits around the user’s head just above the brow line, freeing the ears and nose bridge for personal eye wear.

Concept B was chosen due to its ability to be worn for long periods of time without fatiguing the user. Since Looiking Glass’ band wraps around the head, it was possible to incorporate Konftel’s OmniSound technology.

13

Analog and Digital Form Development Taking design cues from Konftel’s brand image as well as contemporary eye wear, Looking Glass’ form and function was developed.

AR / MR photon lens technology

Adjustable Omnisound bone conduction

End User Insitu Regardless of the scenario, Looking Glass is unobtrusive for the user.

17

How do we interact in the new MR world? Depending on the application, the touch pad remote can be utilized in both horizontal or vertical orientation. A physical home button is included allowing the user to instantly dismiss the on-screen UI to focus back to the real world.

What might this MR world look like? Mixed reality will bring 2D and 3D objects into the user’s peripheral view, whether that be a 3D CAD model of architecture or simpler models of documents and emails.

19

User Interface Storyboard Investigating user interactions with the control module enables a better understanding of how a user would interact with a MR user interface.

Conclusion Looking Glass is a conceptual idea that illustrates the future of communication between users and organizations, as well as incorporating Konftel’s key competencies. Looking Glass was vital in learning how industrial design will develop as technology becomes more advanced and discrete within the physical design.

Student Interviews Visiting Greenwood College, we interviewed students who communicated what their ideal task chair might look like.

Comfort A chair that provides maximum comfort for long lecture classes and keeps their posture in line.

With the knowledge gained from interviewing students from various colleges, design and build a cost effective, ergonomic and purposeful chair for students.

Storage Students desired the ability to store personal laptops and bags.

Greenwood’s Core Values Two major themes that we discovered during our interviews were tradition and nature. Greenwood’s brand was also reflective of these themes and should be present within the materiality and design of the chair.

Movement Easy to move around the classroom to collaborate with other students, as well as keeping students moving to aid with overall learning.

27

Ideation Influenced by our student interviews, initial sketches revolved around the classic school chair while simultaneously incorporating contemporary materials and form.

Ergonomic Testing and Design Development Using the Measure of Man and Woman we determined the key angles and measurements required to ensure the chair was comfortable for all user types.

Tango Breakdown

Steel leg construction to mimic traditional Greenwood values Bend plywood low lumbar support for optimal posture Large cushion for maximum comfort

Casters for ease of mobility

Under seat storage to accommodate large backpacks

Teamwork enabled us to get through design problems Once the design was completed, we manufactured the full-scale prototype.

31

Various Postures During collaborative work sessions, Tango supports any students specific learning posture. Additionally, Tango’s large storage tray allows easy access for bags or laptops when maneuvering around the class.

Final Prototype When it is time to concentrate on important lectures, Tango’s lower back support functions to keep postures straight.

33

How to build Tango Tango is easy to assemble and disassemble by a single user. If any part of Tango becomes damaged or worn, it is easily changed or repaired using an hex key.

The Tango Team Tango was displayed at Humber College’s annual chair show. The show allows family, friends, the public and those in the industry to sit and inspect each chair and give unbiased feedback. It was required that each team design and print an aesthetic product poster, brochure and booklet as practice for a mock trade show setting.

35

Conclusion Tango is a conceptual product that illustrates how user inputs and environmental aspects can guide the design of a product. Tango aided in the learnings of ergonomics, 1:1 scale model making as well as designing for a predefined space.

Canadian Tire’s Target Demographic Canadian Tire - a major home, automotive and hardware store in Canada partnered with Umbra to host their next condo living flagship product competition.

Ideation and Concept Development The main design goal of Flรถde was to maximize functionality and mobility within the smallest footprint possible.

41

Crafting the Prototype To create the model, my partner and I adhered felt to 1/16 polystyrene with adhesive and created multiple jigs to manually thermoformed the prototype.

Problem Mobility issues can hinder the user experience when opening a jar. Additionally, while cooking, hands can come into contact with grease, oil, and water which can cause slippage.

Q:

WET

How can we create a better jar opening experience?

SLIPPERY

GUNK

Investigating Good Grips Investigating various grips that successfully enable pulling and tugging for all users’.

49

Ideation and Concept Development Utilizing a similar connection method as a Zip-lock bag, the injection molded strap can be opened for use and then pushed closed for storage.

User Testing User testing was conducted using several quick models. Results were recorded from multiple users varying in strength, hand size and hand dominance. Overall, the design was a success and positively impacted the experience of opening a jar.

51

How to Use

TUG

Tug N’ Twist’s intuitive form allows for the user to utilize the opener aid effortlessly and easily.

The “tug” motion is illustrated by the large and prominent notch at the end of the strap.

TWIST

Tug N’ Twist’s tapered design guides user’s fingers to only fit in the orientation in which the lid must twist.

PUSH Once tugged, the strap reveals the female grove for pushing back in for later use.

Mason jar or container

Glued plastic injection molded handle

Aluminum lid with bottom lip

Product Possibilities Tug N’ Twist cost effective form can be simply adhered to any current jar lid. Tug N’ Twist also provides an optimal brand location, providing extra advertising space and recognition within the limited ability market.

First Robotics Competition (FRC) challenges alter every competition season, 6 weeks from January into mid February. Every competition is a reflection of team based sports such as soccer, football and ultimate frisbee.

Jr. | Sr. | Captain | Mentor Over my 6 years involved with FRC robotics, I was able to move up the ranks and become head captain of this talented team. Now during my post secondary studies, I occasionally return to mentor and give back the skills in which I learned throughout my time at 2386 Trojans.
