PEOPLE LIVE NEAR VOLCANOES

Spring 2016

Fertile soils Volcanic soils are some of the most fertile in the world. These volcanic soils contain nutrients and minerals, which mean the soil is excellent for growing crops. In countries with hot, wet climates, lots of thick vegetation grows quickly. As volcanic areas are ideal for growing crops, they attract large amounts of people to live close by.

Geothermal energy Heat from magma close to the surface in volcanic areas can be used as a source of geothermal energy, which can be harnessed to produce electricity. Superheated steam, created by the heating of water in permeable rocks in magma can be used to drive turbines. This use of energy is renewable and sustainable and is also pollution free.

Tourism

Due to the amazing scenery around volcanic landscapes and unique features such as lava flows and Geysers, volcanoes, particularly those having recently erupted are particularly popular with tourists. This can make lots of money. Tourism brings customers for businesses such as hotels, cafes etc. This creates jobs and increases the amount of money a place has.

Minerals Valuable metals such as Copper, Gold, Silver, Lead, Zinc and even Diamonds are all found in volcanic areas as magma cools and hardens beneath the volcano. Areas with volcanoes are therefore excellent areas for mining, creating money through job opportunities and selling the precious metals.

BABYLONIANS CIVILIZATION Lorem Ipsum Dolor

Spring 2016

History begins in the Asiatic land of Babylonia. Very recent discoveries have revealed to us that there, at least five thousand years before Christ, and probably twice that long ago; man had built himself-cities and organized a government. This early civilization was remarkable in itself, and double remarkable as being apparently the very first wherein man rose definitely above the savage state, and realized his own destiny as master of the earth. The time-worn records of those glowing days of Intellect's first triumphant outburst have been at last been at last recovered, at least in part, from the earth in which they had lain buried for ages. The surprising glimpses thus given of the past have revolutionized many of our ideas of ancient history. The story of the world must be told all over again, from the beginning.

GREECE CIVILIZATION

Spring 2016

Ancient Greek civilization was the birthplace of Western civilization about 4000 years ago. Ancient Greece produced many magnificent achievements in areas of government, science, philosophy and the arts that still influence our lives.

Art The art of ancient Greece has exercised an enormous influence on the culture of many countries from ancient times until the present. There are three scholarly distinctions of Greek art that correspond roughly with historical periods of the same names. These are the Archaic (700 480 BC), the Classical (480 - 323 BC) and the Hellenistic (323 – 31 BC) periods. The main physical categories of Greek art are sculpture, pottery, coin design and architecture.

Architecture Ancient Greek architects strove for the precision and excellence of workmanship that are the hallmarks of Greek art in general. The formulas they invented as early as the sixth century B.C. have influenced the architecture of the past two millennia.

CHINESE DYNASTIES Mandate of Heaven The Mandate of Heaven is what the Chinese people believed gave their rulers the right to be king or emperor. It meant that the gods had blessed that person with the right to rule. A ruler had to be a good and just ruler to keep the Mandate of Heaven. When a ruler or dynasty lost power, this meant that they must also have lost the Mandate of Heaven.

Dynasty A dynasty is when one family rules a country or region over a long period of time. Generally, the head of the family will be the ruler of the land, like an emperor or king. When that ruler dies, another member of the family will take power, usually the oldest son. When a new family takes control, then a new dynasty begins 16

ROMAN CIVILIZATION

Lorem Ipsum Dolor

Spring 2016

The Italian peninsula was the legendary base where the great civilization rose to power. Rome derived its name from Romulus (who along with his twin brother Remus is regarded as the founder of Rome). Romulus is said to have killed Remus in a fight to construct their cities. Rome was born on the Palatine hill as a small community. Gradually the community began to spread into the nearby hills and gave birth to the city of Rome. Latin language became popular world over in the times of the Roman civilization as the various facts about this culture were discovered in this language. The Romans enriched their culture with that of the Etruscans (people from ancient Tuscany and Umbria) like gladiator wars and chariot races etc.

Gladiators Like chariot racing, contests of gladiators probably originated as funeral games; these contests were much less ancient than races, however. The first recorded gladiatorial combat in Rome occurred when three pairs of gladiators fought to the death during the funeral of Junius Brutus in 264 BCE, though others may have been held earlier.
