Dedication
To the next generation of brave hearts.
Azaria & Isaiah Nico, Adana, Onike, Makayla, Brandon & Mila.
a little boy with a big heart. Each day, he prepared for adventure by making sure he had his helmet, backpack, galoshes, wooden sword and shield. And every morning, he and his mother would say their daily prayers. This day she taught him the 23rd Psalm.
I will always have everything I need. He lets me lie down in green pastures. He leads me by calm pools of water. He gives new strength to my soul for the good of his name. He leads me on paths of goodness, to show he is truly good. Even if I walk through a valley as dark as the grave, I will not be afraid of any danger.
Why? Because you are with me, Lord. Your rod and staff comfort me. Lord, you prepared my table in front of my enemies. You poured oil on my head. My cup is full and spilling over. Goodness and mercy will be with me the rest of my life. And I will sit in the Lord’s temple for a long, long time.
On his way to school, David noticed a peculiar pink bumblebee flying in the pattern of a “Z. From left to right, down and back the bee zigged and zagged just over his head. Her buzzing sounded like a sweet lullaby.
Fascinated by this melodic buzzing, David followed this peculiar pink bumblebee past his school, into a park deep into a mysterious botanical garden called Fruitful.
The bee disappeared up into a beechnut tree. And David realized he needed to get to school. But when he looked around, he had no idea how to get out of the garden. He remembered the prayer his mother taught him. “The Lord is my shepherd . . . and knew that the Lord would lead him out.
Now facing the beechnut tree, he thought about climbing it to see how to get out. While admiring its smooth gray bark, glossy leaves and hard timber, he wondered, “Hmm… This tree is very big and looks slippery. How am I going to climb it?” He began to whistle to help him think.
Suddenly, the leaves on the tree begin to shake and tremble, the branches begin to sway and bend when out swoops a gigantic gorilla, slamming his fists on the ground and peering into David’s eyes saying,
“Hey, little dude. See my hands strong and tough, my big chest, big arms always buff. I’m industrial strength, made to last. I’m not just any animal you can walk past. I have a super grip and I’m mean you see. Now run home to your mama or I’ll put you in this tree.”
