2. Child Safety: How to sandbox your children’s web traffic cheaply using a Raspberry Pi Heavy Disclaimer Although the Raspberry Pi described here is super cheap, you will have to have some slightly specialized network equipment to do this. In particular you will need a VLAN aware network switch and a VLAN aware Wi Access Point at a minimum. These used to be costly but are getting cheaper. I HIGHLY recommend the: Ubiquiti UniFi UAP Indoor Scalable WiFi Access Point – around £50.00 Ubiquiti TOUGHSwitch 5-Port PoE Switch- around £90.00 I have fallen in love with Ubiquiti network products. They o er you the power of a corporate network for home user cost. Read More: Child Safety: How to sandbox your children’s web tra

3. Raspberry Pi Cheap DIY ATX-Power Switch. Ok, so it doesn’t look like much…. But why would you need one? Well you don’t, it is helpful if your pi is powered by a supply that also powers other things. A 3D Printer in my case. Also included is a separate shutdown button which powers down the Pi. After the Pi cleanly shuts down then power is removed from the Pi completely. Read More: Raspberry Pi Cheap DIY ATX-Power Switch.

4. 8 superb — and cheap — Raspberry Pi alternatives As great as the Raspberry Pi is — and let’s be honest, all of the devices in that family are excellent, especially for the money — it’s not the only such device available to buy, and some of the rival systems are arguably better as they come with Wi-Fi built-in, and other tricks, such as the ability to double as a wireless router, run Android, or display on-board scrolling messages. 5. Cheap solderless reset button for Raspberry Pi This is my rst Raspberry Pi. I’ve bought it as an XBMC home-theater box (and a “we’ll see later on what else”). One of the annoying things I’ve found out right away was that it didn’t have a reset button. You can politely shut down the thing from software, but how do you turn it back on?
