Johnny Depp Makes ManJewelry Popular Although jewellery for men has become more acceptable and popular, it isn’t until celebrities join in the trend that everyone else is ready and willing to try it out. Johnny Depp, having established himself as a great actor with a tremendous range, recreating himself from teen heartthrob to one of the highestpaid actors in Hollywood, is at the manjewellery forefront. He has always had a taste for rings, particularly manly skull rings, but he has expanded his jewellery repertoire, and both fans and the media have taken notice. Johnny’s ringladen figures have added to his appeal for years. It set him apart from most men, and established a style that was all his. He began wearing skull rings even before the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films. On his 40th birthday, longtime girlfriend Vanessa Paradis gave him a 14carat gold ring shaped like the head of a Cherokee as a nod to Depp’s Native American ancestry. He also recently acquired a solid gold skull ring by highend jeweler Neil Lane. Around his neck, he is often photographed wearing a gold necklace with a diamond ring hanging from it. The necklace itself has a goldset sapphire, similar to the sapphire ring that Jack Sparrow wears in the “Pirates” movies. Also hanging from the chain is a ring set with diamonds. When dressed up, Johnny also usually wears a gold pocket watch and watch chain. Among the jewellery for men that he only wears occasionally is silver cross bearing the word “Gonzo” in honor of his nowdeceased friend, author Hunter S. Thompson, whom Johnny played in the movie version of “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”. His necklace collection also includes a Che Guevara pendant, a pendant bearing the likeness of the Hindu god Ganesh, and several simple beaded pieces. He has a leather cuff that he has worn since he first started out with a small part in the movie “Platoon”, and a colorful beaded bracelet of hearts made by his daughter, Lily Rose. Johnny Depp’s jewellery collection is actually apparently quite large, and he isn’t afraid to wear any of it, sometimes stacking necklace on top of necklace and almost always wearing several rings at once. He will wear his skull rings with the childlike bracelet made by his daughter, and is often photographed wearing his Jack Sparrow beads hanging from his belt loops.
Johnny Depp, a man who has very little interest in influencing fashion, is nonetheless leading by example, making it much more common for men to express themselves through jewellery.
