 Get multiple quotes in writing: ask the vendor to give you a written breakdown of the rate quoted. Ask him to mention if there are any add ons, any monthly or annual subscriptions. Once you have the list with you, contact the other vendors to see what the rates are charged by them. Now compare the different rates to see what the prevailing market rate is. Find out about the return policy as well. In case the software does not work, you got to replace it right?  Ask for a live demo: once you have a list of the software’s that you would like to try out, fix a live demo of all the software’s. Do keep a minimum gap between the different demons. This will help you to better analyze the software and play a significant role in your decision making.


Try out the software before you go ahead with the purchase: before you go ahead and make the purchase, give the software try. Find out how it operates, what are the different features, how it is making your work easy – in short try to find out all those things that you need to know in order to run the software.  Take time to learn the software: it is very important that you purchase the software 6 to 8 weeks before you plan to go live with the software. Give uninterrupted time towards learning the software so that when you go live you are confident enough to run the software and you know how the whole thing works.


 Ask question: it is always a good thing to ask questions. His way your concepts will clear and you will be more confident to run the software.


Following are a few sample questions that you can begin with: How many employees are going to use this software?  What makes this particular product better compared to the other optometry emr software’s in the market?  Which optometry trade shows do you intend to attend this year?  Does the software fulfill all your requirements?
