Exclusive Interview with Jonny Gowanus & Theory of Everything! What kind of art or performing do you do? Original free and closed form poetry, plus covers of classics (Poe, Whitman etc.) and the new grade (Vysotsky, Good etc.) How long have you been doing this? Writing my whole life. Performing poetry 2 months. Where did your inspiration come from? The whole life inspiration came from Johnny Carson; 2 month old inspiration came from having a free Monday night Do you remember the moment you fell in love with it? If so can you describe it? My poetry is all about such descriptions. What drew you to this particular field/talent? It’s beauty and power. Tell us about your current projects or activities. JG&ToE keeps recording tracks and putting them out, doing shows and posting videos. (YouTube/JonnyGowanus and SoundCloud/JonnyGowanus/you/sets/TheRe cords) JG, outside the band is also writing musical stage plays, blogging publicly at The Brooklyn New York Times (bknyt.com) and privately at FERN; JG and toast are also putting together a set of original Americana songs and there is a lot more.
Which of your projects are you most proud of and why? JG&ToE because it’s new, quick, easy and really, really well-received plus it combines both music and intense thought. Which of your projects do believe defines you as an artist the most? The entire work, no single work. What sets you apart from other artists in your field? The absolute originality of thought and performance distinguish JG & ToE, couple that with an extremely broad and wide set of product, beyond what is mentioned here. Plus, with classic covers, JG&ToE educate beyond street stories. What is one of your most memorable moments /experiences in your field? Improvising the delivery of a poem that just kills, e.g. “Caught…stuck…somewhere between screw this…and argh!!” If you could be doing anything in your artistic/performing career right now, what would you be doing? Opening large events with poetry recitals; staging my stuff on broadway.
