Waiting area outside CEO office NOTES: My role was designer on a team including a project manager, an interior designer, and two principals. Minimal daylight prompted the early involvement of our lighting consultant, which allowed lighting strategies to inform and develop with the architectural intentions. Initially involved to translate program planning into schematic design, I became responsible for the production of all drawings, presentations, renderings, and building code analysis consistent with the schematic design phase.

CLIENT: Stanford Children’s Health SITE: 700 Welch Road PROGRAM: 15 offices, 6 conference rooms, 1 open work space, 1 kitchenette, 3 waiting areas, 1 reception, support spaces. SIZE: 11,472 gross square feet (2nd floor only) COMPLETION: Unbuilt / terminated at conclusion of schematic design due to several factors impacting the project yet were outside the scope of our work.

Exterior during construction NOTES: My role was to alter classroom layouts in response to a change order, having to do with the teaching style of the school principal hired after construction began but before interior elements constructed. Time to alter contract documents was very tight, 2 months. Alterations had significant impacts on several systems, including ceilings, lighting, supply and return vents, interior finishes, fire ratings, occupancy loads and means of egress. Revit ‘18.

CLIENT: Caliber Schools SITE: 500 Oregon Street PROGRAM: K - 8th grade classrooms, 4 breakout spaces, 2 special education classrooms, 1 coding lab, administrative offices, outdoor recess facilities, cafeteria, courtyard, assembly staircase, and 1 multipurpose area. SIZE: 64095 gross square feet COMPLETION: Substantial completion met and occupied in January 2018.

Reflected ceiling plan of pediatric cardiovascular OR NOTES: My role on the 1st operating room was designer. I was responsible for the production of contract documents from the schematic phase through acquiring a building permit from OSHPD. The team size grew and shrunk throughout. My role on the 2nd operating room was similar though the team was only comprised of myself, a project manager, and a principal. I played a major role with construction administration. Both projects required heavy coordination with mechanical, structural, and electrical consultants. Both operating rooms were driven by the medical equipment, which required heavy coordination with user groups consisting of nurses and surgeons, KP equipment planners, KP project managers, and equipment representatives.

CLIENT: Kaiser Permanente SITE: 3600 Broadway PROGRAM: 1st operating room outfitted for pediatric and cardiovascular surgery, including dedicated storage of heart-lung machines or “the pump”. 2nd operating room upgrade with DaVinci robotic surgical system, including seismic tether restraints and basement-level utility wash room renovation. Both operating rooms are on 2nd floor of hospital. SIZE: 1st operating room = 1284 net square feet; 2nd operating room = 1019 net square feet COMPLETION: 1st operating room’s Certificate of Substantial Completion pending punch list completion. 2nd operating room in construction administration phase. INTERIOR RENOVATIONS of Tenant Improvement for MEDICAL OFFICE BUILDINGS Stanford Health Care in Redwood City, CA 1. Key plan 2. 2nd floor plan of Pavilion C and D 3. North workcore of Pavilion C, 2nd floor NOTES: My role was designer on a team consisting of five designers, two interior designers, one project manager, and two principals. I developed general construction documents, designed and scheduled privacy screens at waiting areas, and detailed partition to existing column solutions. I also worked with the interiors team for their presentations, producing a series of renderings that illustrate design options for paint, fabric, casework, waiting areas, and furniture.

CLIENT: Interiors consultant to ZGF Architects SITE: 420 Broadway PROGRAM: 2nd floor of Pavilion C contains 43 offices, 10 open workstations, 3 conference rooms, 3 clinical trial rooms, 3 staff lounges. 1st, 2nd, 3rd floors of Pavilion D contains 65 exam rooms, 3 radiology rooms, 4 ultrasound rooms, 5 consult rooms, 5 open work areas, 1 health library, 9 procedure rooms, 18 post procedure rooms, 9 hold rooms, 2 nurse stations, and extensive support spaces. COMPLETION: Substantial completion met and occupied in October 2017.

NOTES: My role was to produce a series of site analyses and detailed site plans of the various locations proposed by the California High Speed Rail Authority in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was then responsible for taking the conceptual site analyses of the major stations, which include Gilroy and San Jose, and produce detailed site plans which encorporated certain amounts of parking spots, new streets, and intermodal transit areas. These representations required heavy coordination with HNTB infrastructure engineers.

CLIENT: Architectural consultant of HNTB Engineers SITE: San Francisco, Millbrae, San Jose, Gilroy, East Gilroy PROGRAM: High Speed Rail Stations coordinated with support structures like PG & E Substations, historic structures (if any), public parking, intermodal transit, existing BART lines, bus routes, and bike lanes. COMPLETION: First phase between San Francisco and Anaheim scheduled for 2029.

thesis excerpt: A speculative house from a HOME Dwellings: five dwellings with a GARDEN for White Sands, NM.

1. plan 2. section 3. location map 4. elevation NOTES: This is a home with a garden. The garden is a hortus conclusus containing saguaro cacti, desert flora, and scorpions. And the pool. The pool is severely deep, 56’ deep, which keeps it cool in the unforgiving heat of the Tularosa Basin. It is comprised of two square pavilions in a row surrounded by a concrete wall and dense shrubbery. The south pavillion is a dwelling meant to accomodate foreign dignitaries, asylum seekers, and various guests of the United States Army. It’s exterior consists of concrete, glass, wood, and stone panels. Rhino 5 + Ai + Ps.

ADVISOR: Kathy Velikov, OAA, AIA. PUBLISHED: ACSA Annual Meeting 2016. SITE: Although an exact location would certainly be confidential, it would likely be an open secret that this dwelling exists somwhere just outside the census-designated place of White Sands, NM, which is the main residential area on the White Sands Missile Range. PROGRAM: A house and a pavilion for one occupant. That includes a kitchen, a den/guest room, a library, living room/pit with suspended fireplace, a subterranean screening room, trianguler salt pool, and a hortus conclusus.
