October 2014 Leadership Development and Training Committee (LDTC) Newsletter October 2014 Update of progress towards the LDTC Goals 2014/15 in respect of the following tasks: 1. Liaison Governor and Service Committee Chair Seminar Saturday 2nd August 2014 2. RIBI Assemblies 2015 – Appointment of facilitators and Service Committees 2015/16 3. Review of the District Governor Nominee to District Governor Training Journey 4. ELearning Pilot bringing together RI Learning Centre and RIBI MOODLE 5. The District Training Officer Seminar 20th-21st September 2014 1. LG and SC seminar - Saturday 2nd August 2014 In response to a request from RIBI President Peter King the LDTC structured a seminar to clarify and create a common understanding of purpose of role and responsibilities between Liaison Governors and Service Committee Chairs. Amongst the intended outcomes was to create a common template for the Liaison Governor Committee report to the General Council; also to achieve a greater understanding on the process of Decision Making within RIBI; to reach an understanding of the role of the Service Committees in preparation for the forthcoming Regional Assemblies; and ways to demonstrate greater evidence of joined up thinking through an increase of committees working together. 2. RIBI Assemblies 2015 – Appointment of facilitators and Service Committees 2015/16 There has been a good response from Rotarians who were interested in applying to be a Facilitator at the Regional Assemblies with over 40 applications for the 24 Facilitator positions. All the applications have currently been placed before the Selection and Advisory committee for a fast track endorsement with a target date of 20th October. Similarly, all the applications to be on an RIBI Committee have been processed and are being presented to the Selection and Advisory committee which meets on the 30th October. 3. Review of the District Governor Nominee to District Governor Training Journey The LDTC sub-committee has completed an analysis of the returned feedback questionnaires from the current District Governors and their predecessors for 2012-13 and 2013-14 with a 40% response rate. The analysis has clearly identified both strengths and weaknesses of the 3 year programme along with a significant number of action points to be taken into consideration for the delivery and content of a revised training programme. All contributors will receive a copy of the draft response analysis before it is published on the LDTC webpage. Following this the recommendations for improvement will be circulated via the Executive and General Council for comment in time for the Assembly Planning weekend in December.
4. ELearning Pilot bringing together RI Learning Centre and RIBI MOODLE There has been considerable progress gained in the pilot project with the publication of the first RIBI module for AG ELearning. Please visit “My Rotary” at Rotary.org and see what is on offer, follow the drop down menu and enter ‘Learning and Reference’, next select Learning Centre and scroll down until RIBI Assistant Governor title appears. Whilst you are there we invite you to explore other role interests. If you have any queries about E-Learning please contact Wendy Aldred, RIBI E-Learning Lead, LDTC rotary@dragonservices.co.uk 5. The District Training Officer Seminar 20th - 21st September 2014 This was a weekend with many ‘firsts’. The biggest one for RIBI was a 100% seminar evaluation return to all. An hour prior to the end of the seminar all participants received their evaluation form electronically and many completed it online before departing. Others in the group completed the assignment within 2 days. Well done and thank you to all the delegates. Click here for a copy of the evaluations. The LDTC strategy is to build an improved resource bank for the District Training Officers to create stronger Assistant Governor development in the Districts. It is also to strengthen support for clubs through each District Training Team by enabling them and the AGs to be developers of Rotary Club Central and the Rotary Voice. This provides an opportunity to join up with the District Secretary and together make a successful implementation. As Chair of the LDTC I am keen to hear your views on the renaming of the District Training Officer. The delegates at the seminar were almost of one voice that the word ‘training’ in their title was no longer suitable and more preferable would be to accept that ‘The District Leadership and Development Officer’ was more appropriate. Would you support this? Please share you views with me at keithgrahambest@gmail.com
Finally before I leave this newsletter I would like to remind everyone who will be called or voluntarily wish to attend one of the Regional Assemblies to choose the closest venue to their home. There is no necessity for members of one District to attend the same Regional Assembly, as the same facilitated discussions will take place at each event.
