All You Need To Know Fossils And Their Origin Fossils are basically the preserved remains (traces of remains) of ancient creatures that lived on the planet. Fossils are simply not just organism’s remains, they are also rocks. A fossil is fully capable of preserving an entire organism or even just parts of one. Feathers, bones, shells, and even leaves can become fossils. The size of the fossils can vary depending on the type of the creature; it can be huge or small. As a matter of fact, you may also find micro-fossils that can only be viewed with the help of microscope. Pollen and bacteria are micro-fossils. On the other hand, macro-fossils can be several meters long and can weigh several tons. Macro-fossils can be in the form of petrified trees and also dinosaur bones. As for the preserved remains, they can become fossils if they are able to reach an age of approximately 10,000 years. Fossils may be a part of the Archaeaean Eon, which started almost 4 billion years ago. They can also be a part of the Holocene Epoch, which continues even today. The fossilized teeth of the famed wooly mammoths have been discovered as the most recent fossils. There are numerous online stores where you can find authentic fossils for sale, make sure to find a credible supplier or store for the same.

Some of the oldest known fossils are that of the ancient algae. These lived in the ocean more than 3 billion years ago. The word fossilization is derived from the Latin word fossus, which literally means having been dug up. These are many a times found as rock formations that are buried deep inside. Fossilization is a unique process where the remains become fossils. It is a known fact that fossilization is quite rare. A majority of the organisms decompose in a short span of time after they die. For an organism that is in the process of getting fossilized, the remains must be covered by sediment very soon after the death of the organism. Sediments may include lava, sandy seafloor, along with sticky tar. Over a period of time, the minerals that are present in the sediment seep into the remains. In the next step, the remains become fossilized. Fossilization, on most occasions will take place in the organisms that have hard and bony body parts, for example teeth, shells and skeletons. As for the soft-bodied organisms, for example worms, these are rarely fossilized. That said, there can be times when the sticky resin of a tree can transform into a proper fossil. This is

referred to as amber (fossilized resin). The amber can preserve bodies of numerous delicate and soft-bodied organisms.
