James Metcalfe Personal summary I am currently a second year studying Product Design at Nottingham Trent University. Being at university has helped me to develop my skills through projects, both individual and in groups, and through educational sessions. I am passionate about Product Design and have developed my ability to identify opportunities and explain them through my work with sketching, rendering and models. Key skills and competencies Professional • • • • • • •

Clearly explaining to others how a products work, interact and what they are made of. A working knowledge of manufacturing, materials and processes Skilled in using various software’s including; SolidWorks and Adobe Suite Can develop ideas from concept to production. Good at sketching ideas and developing concepts. Experienced in graphic design Strong understanding of what makes good product and user experience.

01. Design for production Develop a single or a range of home-ware products specifically for sheet material manufacturing such as laser, water and plasma cutting. Alongside the final outcomes there may be the need for stock fixings, further fabrication / finishing.

This project was influenced heavily by the mood boards, a lot of the sketches were created from drawing inspiration from the pictures seen above. As the project progressed, inspiration was found in much more specific areas such as Vitsoe's 606 universal shelving system.

02. Cultural challanges and sustainability RSA - Accounting for how different groups in society are affected by loneliness, design a way to reduce its impact on one or more of the following: physical health, mental health, or access to services.

03. Gen z consumers NestlĂŠ - Choose ONE of the two opportunity areas (Healthy Halo or Connected) to research, develop and execute a new confectionery experience for Gen Z consumers. Choose an existing Nestle confectionery brand to build your concept around this.

The NestlĂŠ Box Packaging

The packaging has information about where the food has been sourced from and how to reduce the amount of card consumed. The box can be sent to nestle to be repackaged and sent back to the user.
