LOGO DESIGN IDEA: ‘NAUTICAL STAR’ DESIGN

Advantages: -‐  Simplis2c colour scheme with a lighter and darker blue -‐  Represents a nau2cal theme very well -‐  Alterna2ve take on an ordinary compass make the design memorable -‐  Font of a text is in a classical style-‐enhancing the nau2cal theme Disadvantages: -‐  The text doesn’t seem to fit well and looks somewhat out of place, being placed below the image -‐  The alterna2ve take on a compass demotes the primary compass points of North, South, East and West as they are smaller than the secondary points, as well as behind them

Hand drawn version

Version produced through Illustrator: -‐  (The contrast between the lighter and darker colours have been emphasised to create a three dimensional effect -‐  The primary compass points have been brought to the front to make it more relevant to a mari2me theme.)

IMPROVED DESIGN 1 -‐  The three dimensional effect has been enhanced further with the removal of the image’s stroke-‐ addi2onally improving the overall standard of the design. -‐  To improve the composi2on in the means of where the text was placed, I have posi2oned it in the middle of the logo, where it appears more suited than prior.

IMPROVED DESIGN 2 -‐  With the text posi2oned in the central point of the logo, it is not par2cularly clear due to the font. I have changed the font to one in which I have altered in order to make unique to my company. The use of all capital lePers further improves the clarity of the text-‐ an important aspect for a logo design.

LOGO DESIGN IDEA: ‘GALILEO THERMOMETRE’ DESIGN

Advantages: -‐  Unique shape design makes it very memorable -‐  Refers to products sold being in the shape of a thermometer -‐  Design of font is original and is an a Greek style-‐ referring to Poseidon, God of the Sea -‐  Composi2on of the thermometers and text works well in rela2onship Disadvantages: -‐  Bulbs in design appear somewhat out of place and make an overcrowded composi2on

Hand drawn version

Version produced through Illustrator: -‐ (A radial gradient has been incorporated within the colour of the bulbs to give a more glass-‐like effect.)

IMPROVED DESIGN 1 -‐  The removal of the bulbs from the design has created a more professional and alterna2ve approach to the logo of the company. Furthermore, it does not appear overcrowded and nothing appears out of place. -‐  A disadvantage created however, is that the design appears to be lacking an element and is perhaps somewhat bare.

IMPROVED DESIGN 2 -‐  The inclusion of the addi2onal elements to the design resolve the issue of the design appearing bare. -‐  The low opacity of the added shapes develop the colour scheme of the design-‐with the addi2on of a lighter colour the design resembles a glass-‐like effect in which help in the representa2on of the Galileo thermometer.

LOGO DESIGN IDEA: ‘COMPASS’ DESIGN

Advantages: -‐  Clearly shows the logo is represen2ng a compass -‐  Represents a nau2cal theme very well -‐  Single colour colour scheme -‐  Rela2onship between the image and text collaborate effec2vely unto crea2ng the four compass points -‐  Design of font is original and is an a Greek style-‐ referring to Poseidon, God of the Sea Disadvantages: -‐  The use of a compass for a logo is used oVen and therefore may not be very easy to remember -‐  Perhaps rather tall for a logo, and therefore may be difficult in some situa2ons to use

IMPROVED DESIGN -‐  To differen2ate the compass design from similar designs of other companies, using the influence of the nau2cal star, I have added further detail to the north and south compass points. I feel this works well as it adds a three dimensional asset to the design addi2onally.
