Final Major Project LIFECYCLE
E-Waste Landfills around the globe are overflowing with appliances that have minor faliures. Many toasters, kettles and irons sit buried in tons of products who’s only failure is their inability to sustain an emotional attachment with their users. Designers are beginning to create better, longer lasting products however, this is a symptomatic solution rather than a fundamental change in the way we interact with our products. Lifecycle is a service concept and certification brand that helps people keep their electrical products away from landfill while creating a platform for manufacturers to transition product lines into a circular economy.
PROJECT VIDEO
“The service proposed would demonstrate to manufacturers, as well as consumers, that changing their behaviour could bring unambiguous personal and business benefits. He’s told his story creatively and to a professional level. - Adrian Stokes, ASA Designers Ltd.
Lifecycle App The smart phone App is a product library for Lifecycle products. It gives users automatically synced purchase and warranty info while giving them options for repair, reuse and recycling.

Design for Disaster Relief D E S I G N I N N OVAT I O N I N P L A S T I C S AWA R D
I was invited to design a product, mainly in plastics which would alleviate the suffering of disaster victims around the world. It had to be readily transportable in high volumes to stricken areas and easy to use in potentially chaotic and challenging environments. Consideration was given to the manufacturing costs and re-use of the design.
SECOND PRIZE
Rain Pod (DIP Competition) Design For Disaster Relief 2nd Prize
I was invited to design a product, mainly in plastics which would alleviate the suffering of disaster victims in chaotic environments. It had to be readily transportable in high volumes to stricken areas and easy to use in potentially chaotic and challenging environments. Consideration was given to the manufacturing costs and re-use of the design.
Tent The tent is designed to harvest rainwater from monsoons, giving those who have been displaced a clean source of water as well as a new home.
Pod The Rain Pod is the secure case which transport the tent, blankets and food supplies. When assembled the pod becomes a vessel inside the tent to store and filter the rainwater
Monsoon Asia Monsoons affect vast areas throughout Asia evey year, causing millions of examples of uneccesary suffering. Pakistan’s 2010 floods left thousands dead and millions homeless.
Catchment The roof harvests rainwater from the excess monsoon rains. The water runs into the tent and through the sand filter inside the pod.
Waterborne Diseases The greatest risk for flood victims is water contamination. In chaotic relief camps, Cholera and Rotavirus can become deadly. Those most at risk are children under
5.
Rainwater Harvesting In many cases, families go without a clean source of drinking water. Rainwater is a suitable source if it can be harvested before contamination.
Roof Catch As the Rain Pod fills up, an internal float pushes up the roof catch. This raises the roof’s incline to prevent the pod from overfilling.
Roof Catch Rod Sand Filter Float Pot Filter Taps Lid Cross Section There is a ceramic filter inside the rain pod. This abundant material can be embedded with silver to act as an effective filter for all bacteria and pathogens.
Sustainablity The Rain Pod can become a central hub for clean water in re-build villages. It also requires less transportation of water to disaster zones.
DEVELOPMENT Prototyping I used 3D Printing and multiple prototypes to create a final model of the Rain Pod tent.
New Athletic Shoe LACOSTE SHOE DESIGN COMPETITION
A collaborative design project with Lacoste/Pentland aimed to create a new athletic shoe range for Summer 2014. Designs were based on detailed personas and Lacoste brand heritage. Our team identified a gap in the cycling shoe market which for which we developed a range of casual athletic and premium athletic footwear. Our final design won the competition and we were invited to London to visit their design offices.

Innovation In Giving RSA STUDENT DESIGN AWARDS
There is a general decrease in charitable donations, although over 50% still prefer giving cash or donating in person. Many potential donators feel disconnected from the work of charities and intimidated by face-to-face interactions with charity workers. The Nodee screen is a modular digital display for public spaces around the country. It is an open platform that enables any charity to crowdfund specific fund targets. Nodee makes charitable giving fun, transparent and interesting by bridging the gap between information and interactive art. Using human psychology and research findings to encourage donations.
An interactive FUNdraising system for public spaces.
How can I contribute?
What is this?
Users can donate in 3 ways. The nodee allows children to insert coins to create more bubbles for them to interact with or adults to pay via text or with their cards.
Using the power of intrigue, the activity around the nodee will draw attention from everyone who passes by.
I’ve made a difference (and a bubble). When donations are made (through cash, card or text) bubbles are created on the interactive floor. When users stand on these bubbles, they light up and make sounds. They will float around and bounce off each other.

Charity For a charity to use Nodee, they must first arrange a set of goals that work with the target system.
Target System Users can clearly see tangible goals that the country is collectively trying to reach. Each consecutive goal will be no more than 50% higher than the previous one, essentially gamifying the donation process. Keeping the fund amount close to the target is proven to donation amounts and regularity.
Countdown Timer A time limit increases urgency to donate while making time for other charities to use the screen.
Live Updates Multiple Nodees can be synchronised online. Visual and audio feedback is given in the form of a map on screen to create a calm symphony of complimentary chimes. This will create a sense of combined effort.
Pay Point NFC payment surface and coin slot means passers by can easily pay in whichever way is convenient.
How to Donate Clear icons show users how they can donate. The colours are also represented by the bubbles on the map and interactive floor.
Sprinse H A N D D I S H WA S H I N G A S S I S TA N T
Sprinse was a collaborative project with Unilever that aimed to create a new product category in hand dishwashing for young adults. Research identified many people in this demographic tend to wash and rinse their dishes as they go, sometimes twice a day. Sprinse is a hand dishwashing tool that can be retrofitted to your faucet at home, with consumable sponge heads.

Memory Box A MEMORY CAPTURE SYSTEM FOR WEDDINGS
This project was a competition brief, initiated by Seymourpowell. The aim of the brief was to design a new image capture device and image format that cannot be recreated using a smartphone or app. My solution was well received at Seymourpowell and I was awarded a placement opportunity.
WINNER
STORYBOARD
The engaged couple order their memory box online.
Bride and groom put on their devices.
They receive their package.
She records the video, he records the audio. Devices record automatically so the couple can enjoy the event naturally.
Date and time of wedding ceremony set.
Memories are played back using the Memory Box after the two files automatically sync together. There is also a drawer for physical keepsakes from the event.
Two perspectives on the same event will capture unique footage.
Playback will only work when both devices are in the Memory Box together signifying the bond of marriage.
Allows bride to remember the wedding from HER perspective, not the photographers.

Camera & Microphone for Weddings
DEVELOPMENT
Ergonomically the recording device had to comfortably fit on the bride’s head without clashing with her attire. I made several mock ups to get the ideal form, considering the viewing angle of the camera lens.
Camera & Microphone for Weddings
The boutonniere’s form was an abstract of traditional floral versions. The box itself was inspired by how couples store mementos from their weddings.
Human by Nature RSA STUDENT DESIGN AWARDS
The aim of this years RSA brief was to develop a means of encouraging people to look after the vast array of bacteria cells that inhabit our bodies, otherwise known as the microbiome. More medical data is proving this to be vital to our health and wellbeing. Culture is a service concept that aims to encourage people to try, buy and make their own probiotic/fermented foods, as this is a primary source of good bacteria.
