his year for the Arundel Festival and Gallery Trail Zimmer Stewart welcomes Felix Anaut back to the gallery.
is most recent work concentrates on his interpretation of music, his “Visual Music” as he calls it, inspired from the Baroque period and in particular Chamber Music.
T
hese abstractions have led to recent exhibitions in London, Brussels, Cape Town and ‘The Zaragoza Symphony’: A large scale public exhibition in homage to his birth city, and which included a musical symphony inspired from Anaut’s work, composed by the Spanish composer Gonzalo Alonso, with an aria (words written by Anaut) sung by the international soprano, Marta Almajano.

ll the pieces in this exhibition have been created for Arundel Festival and include works on canvas and paper never shown before.
I
n Festival Music Felix Anaut emphasises a strong Blue or Black Line, which he sees as the melody that holds the musical forms together in his paintings.
A
longside this work, we include a new series of ceramics from an ongoing collaboration with Abio Ceramics in Huesca Spain, more details later in the catalogue.
I
n 2015 at the Arundel Festival he will launch ceramic ‘editions’: Large bottle forms and chargers in small editions featuring his Visual Music artwork.

or several years now Felix Anaut has been collaborating with Raimundo Abio of Abio Ceramics in Huesca Spain.
ll the pieces are hand thrown and fired by Raimundo Abio. Felix Anaut has no pretensions to be a ceramicist, and this leaves him free to concentrate on the design and enamel decoration of the pieces.

he vessels are based on exaggerated large scale traditional forms which Felix then works on with enamel colours on the white glazed pots, which are then given their second firing.
T
he ceramics are an extension to his painting, but in three dimensions, creating sculptural pieces rather than domestic pottery.
T
here is also the unknown element, or surprise, as one never knows how the pieces will come out of the kiln, he therefore has less control over the ceramics than in his painting, and often the result was never the intention.

his year he has started a new series of work in editions, the first pieces, large chargers and tall bottles, are shown here at the Zimmer Stewart Gallery for the first time.
T
he pieces are all in a small edition of 10 (with 3 artist’s proofs). They are decorated with an enamel transfer, fired, so totally integrated into the body of the pots. However as all the pieces are hand thrown no two pieces are identical, and in fact also with the variations created in the glazes due to the firing, each piece is quite different. So in this sense they are in ‘edition variable’ or unique works of art.

elix Anaut studied at the L’ecole de Montparnasse d’Art et Dessin” in Paris in 1978-79, and has lived in Madrid, Tangier, Ibiza, England, Belfast. In 1986 he became a member of the Association of Irish Artists.

e currently lives in South West France.
n December 2003 Felix was awarded the “Career Recognition” award at the Florence Biennale 2003. in 2005 Felix Anaut was been listed by the Spanish national newspaper, El Mundo, in their annual year review as one of the most influential personalities in the Arts, 2005-2006.

e has exhibited widely since 1978 and has had many solo and group exhibitions in France, Ireland, Spain, Italy and the UK (Contact the gallery for a full list).

elix’s works are held in numerous private collections throughout Europe, The United States of America and Australia, and in several public Institutions including: The British Museum; Casoria Contemporary Art Museum, Naples; Ulster Museum; Instituto Cervantes (Bordeaux & Dublin); Musea de Isaba (Navarra – Spain).

ollowing his “London Symphony” exhibited in 2010, Felix Anaut showed his “Zaragoza Visual Symphony” an exhibition of large paintings accompanied by music written by Gonzalo Alonso specifically for this event, in Zaragoza in 24 May 2011. The piece includes an aria written by Felix Anaut and to be sung by the international soprano Marta Almajano.
