COLORTROPOLIS
P
aula Goldfader is an unapologetic lover of color, and she says that for her there is no place in the world more colorful than
New York City. "I was born and raised in New York City and here is where I am continually inspired to live a creative life," says Goldfader, "I'm also interested in color and I believe that, like New York, color resonates in the mind and is truly an emotional force." Paula Goldfader was born in the Bronx and went to school in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. The camera became her constant companion in 1996. "Taking photographs," she says, "became my obsession. All of New York City—its color, energy & rhythm—is my stage." Paula Goldfader's photographs are not about ideas; they're about the experience of seeing. It’s her goal to expand people’s awareness of what they actually can see. An orange cone, a lineup of strollers, a weathered building, a billboard against the sky—these are all there to see. Today, Paula Goldfader lives in the West Village. Her exhibit, COLORTROPOLIS, is on view at Chelsea Market through January 5, 2014. For more information, please email PaulaGPhotos@gmail.com.

GIOVANNI RANA G
iovanni Rana Pastificio & Cucina debuted at Chelsea Market in fall 2012, bringing the beloved brand of fresh, filled pasta
from Italy to the U.S. in a lively, 150-seat restaurant. Guests enjoy a seasonally-inspired menu of hand-crafted pasta, small plates, Italian salumi and cheeses, entrees, desserts and more. Founded in Verona over 50 years ago by Mr. Giovanni Rana, the family-run restaurant is the company’s first in the U.S., offering brunch, lunch and dinner as well as prepared foods to go, fresh pasta made on site, and a thoughtfully curated shop of pantry staples from kitchenware to rare regional Italian specialties such as red cow Parmigiano Reggiano, aged balsamic vinegar from Reggio Emilia, Krumiri biscuits from Turin, chocolate from Modica, and the Rana family's own special reserve extra virgin olive oil from Garda Lake. The restaurant features on-site cooking classes as well as one for pint-sized pasta lovers for families looking for a fun, hands-on experience. Learn more at rananyc.com.

WONDERLAND
4
E
very year, Chelsea Market welcomes local artists to transform the concourse into a winter wonderland. This year
we welcomed set designer Meghan Czerwinski and her team to dress the market in handmade recycled paper décor. "I love the idea of reusing and repurposing materials, and paper is an available medium with both boundless possibilities and a lovely wintery pallet," says Czerwinski. This past November, Meghan and her team descended on the market to craft hundreds of cut paper snowflakes, garlands and paper mâché structures. They also used a collection of mailboxes on posts to create a wonderfully whimsical menorah. A striking holiday "Hero" tree, fashioned from hundreds of paper cones, provides the pièce de résistance, and—of course—the stewards of Chelsea Market have once again been tirelessly decking the halls with thousands of twinkle lights. Be sure to stop by the market this season for a radiant—and recycled—holiday shopping experience! Follow Chelsea Market on Facebook at facebook.com/ChelseaMarket for great holiday
gift ideas and a first look at this year's stunning décor!

What's Cooking?
Man-about-town George Krauth dishes on the fashions, flavors, designs and dĂŠcor he discovers as he travels the globe tracking trends in his capacity as VP of Creative & Marketing for Jamestown.
W
hen Michael Phillips, C.O.O. of Jamestown and Vice Chair of the James Beard Foundation Board of Trustees, announced that he was plan-
ning to write a cookbook, the entire Jamestown Creative & Marketing team clamored with offerings of "research" services. I personally had to come to terms with the idea of adding yet another manual to a rapidly expanding collection in a pint-sized Manhattan kitchen. The just-released Chelsea Market Cookbook offers up a feast of archival images of the market, gorgeous food photography, and entertaining anecdotes from Chelsea Market chefs and friends whose recipes grace its pages. Also new on shelves this fall was Summerland, the iconic Chef Anne Qua-
trano's first cookbook. Named after her family farm and stuffed with more than 100 of her best recipes and entertaining ideas, Summerland makes each month's harvest a reason to celebrate. Drop by the Westside Provisions District in Atlanta where Quatrano is sure to be signing copies this winter. These tastemakers have inspired me to squeeze back into the kitchen and stock the pantry. I hope you enjoy new culinary adventures with these two great guidebooks this holiday season.
