WESTSIDE PROVISIONS Nothing beats a Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

TASTY STUFF FEATURED SUNDAES AT JENI’S

sundae — cold, sweet ice cream drizzled with gooey sauce, sprinkled with salty nuts, and topped with soft whipped cream. This summer, Jeni’s Westside Provisions manager Aaron Brooks recommends The Charleston, a southern confection of Sweet Cream ice cream, salty caramel sauce and blackstrap molasses, topped with Virginia peanuts, a cherry, and a homemade Convo Cookie. It’s the fortune-cookie-inspired Convo Cookie that makes The Charleston ideal for summer sharing. Each Convo Cookie contains a conversation-igniting question! #ProTip: The ensuing debate will provide you with perfect cover for sneaking spoonfuls of your friends’ sundaes. Learn more at jenis.com.

FITNESS STUFF LULULEMON SWEAT SESSIONS

Who’s afraid of a little heat when lululemon offers lightweight, ventilated, sweat-wicking gear to keep you cool no matter how sizzling the season? This summer, give your lululemon gear a workout at lululemon’s monthly Sweat Sessions, hosted on the last Sunday of the month during the Westside Farmer’s Market. Times vary and locations rotate between lululemon, Pure Barre, and Torque Cycle. Classes are donation-based and benefit local farmers markets. For details, follow the Westside Farmers Market at: facebook.com/cfmwestside. And mark your calendars for the return of lululemon’s regularly scheduled Saturday Sweat Sessions, which will make a comeback this fall. ... and the “Lane” is hopping THE GO-TO MARKET ON SUNDAYS Open Sundays from 10am to 2pm, the Westside Farmers Market has proven to be a huge success and an enormous amenity for the Westside community. With over 1,300+ guests weekly, the new Westside Famers Market has quickly become an invaluable asset for Westside neighbors. Launched last May by Community Farmers Markets, organizers of the Grant Park, East Atlanta, and Decatur farmers markets, the Westside Farmer’s Market offers fresh fruit, dairy products, locally raised meats, homegrown seasonal produce, artisan breads, pastries, soaps, candles, jams, relishes, condiments, and more. Since the Westside south of Huff Road still awaits a convenient grocery store, Westside neighbors agree that the new farmers market fills a gap, giving locals access to quality, organic goods the neighborhood has sorely lacked. In addition, the Market is also tons of fun for the whole family, with live music, chef demos, and special events, as well as convienent access to all the shops and restaurants already thriving at Westside Provisions District. Support the Market by attending “Skylight Supper,” a farm-to-table feast under the stars at Skylight Farm on July 30. Follow the market on Facebook at: facebook.com/cfmwestside.

JCT. Kitchen’s Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival is back for a 7th attack at Westside Provisions District from 1pm to 5pm on Sunday, July 19. Enjoy tomato-based treats from dozens of chefs and mixologists and music from Ill Communication, as well as Ford Fry’s all-chef band, Five Bone Rack. Get details and tickets at killertomatofest.com. 5

EDUCATIONAL VARIETY

LEARN & SHOP WSPD merchants Preserving Place and Perrine’s Wine Shop offer unique culinary learning experiences. Ever wondered how to make kimchi, or what it is about Spain’s terroir that makes its Sherry so tasty? For those who enjoy digging into a dish’s culinary secrets as much as they enjoy simply “digging in,” classes at Preserving Place and wine tastings at Perrine’s Wine Shop offer fun, informative, unique culinary learning opportunities. This summer at Preserving Place founder Martha McMillin recommends Canning 101, Intro to Fermentation, Pasta 101, or the upcoming Mushroom Series with Jeff Wall of Kimball House. At Perrine’s Wine Shop, master sommelier Perrine Prieur takes great joy in curating rare and out of the ordinary tastings from Summer Rosé to Sherry and beyond. Culinary classes make perfect foodie gifts or datenight excursions. For full class schedules and details, visit preservingplace.com and perrineswine.com. 6

DISTRICT DISH THE SHADE STORE Seeing is believing with The Shade Store’s unique photo rendering design service. The Shade Store takes the doubt out of design with a unique photo rendering service that enables clients to view custom window treatments in context before purchasing. Just bring a photo of the window(s) you’re looking to treat, and one of The Shade Store’s design experts will create a mock-up to show you how your favorite shades and drapes will look in your home environment. With dozens of styles and colors to choose from, and the ability to produce window coverings in almost any size, summer’s the perfect time to “throw a little shade” into your sunny situation. Visit theshadestore.com for more info.

OPEN NOW + COMING SOON: MORE REALLY GOOD PROVISIONS NOW OPEN Westside Provisions’ destination-defining restaurant scene just got even more delicious with the openings of Marcel, Little Bacch, and Little Trouble. Marcel offers inspired haute cuisine — steaks, chowders, and classic dishes like Sole Meuniére — and a cocktail menu designed by Lara Creasy and inspired by mid-century American culture. Finally, at Little Trouble, you’ll find a fun spot to hang out with friends and enjoy yummy streetfood inspired Asian fare, house made sodas and shareable cocktails.

COMING SOON Get ready to wet your whistle when dtox organic juice bar and Brash Coffee open, bringing even more liquid courage to the district later this summer.
