One Whole Year of Awesome Ormsby’s celebrated its one year anniversary last December
I
t’s hard to believe that in one year, Ormsby’s has become such an integral part of the Westside landscape. With a lamp-lit interior full of tilting chandeliers, a bookcase jammed with eclectic reads, checkerboard tables, and indoor bocce, shuffleboard, ski ball and an assortment of no-technology games, Ormsby’s has quickly become the city’s go-to hangout. Co-owner, beer aficionado and
easy-going barkeep Michael Goot is usually on hand to share the secrets of Ormsby’s beer cellar, which boasts more than 70 handcrafted beers from around the world. Head chef Andrew Smith and sous chefs Robert Echols and Scotley Innis keep diners and revelers alike happy with a palate-pleasing menu fashioned from top-notch ingredients. Whether you’re raising a glass, making a friendly wager on a game of bocce or proposing to your girlfriend on film inside the photo booth, Ormsby’s is a great place to enjoy friends, family and all the fun things life has to offer. 3

Faces of WSPD
Meet Emily Amy, owner and curator of the Emily Amy gallery and key player in the Westside Arts District
Q: What is the Emily Amy Gallery Story? A: We just celebrated our two year anniversary this past September! We are a contemporary fine art gallery, currently representing a stable of 30 artists both local and non-local. We represent emerging, mid-career and established artists that exhibit a broad spectrum of art that is conceptually significant and visually stimulating, with a focus on works that recall mid-twentieth century modern masters. The artists work in a variety of media, including oil, acrylic, mixed media, and collage. A combination of solo and group exhibitions, along with an eclectic, rotating inventory, enable collectors to regularly view new work and learn about ever-changing trends. The gallery is located in the Brickworks community at the intersection of Howell Mill Road and Marietta Street. Q: Why did you locate your gallery on the Westside? A: I felt that this area was very dynamic and in the process of establishing itself as a go-to arts and design district. Also, there is nowhere else in town to rent a building like I have with 15’ ceilings, brick walls, concrete floors, and 12’ x 12’ windows. It is so charming.
Emily Amy is an art’s enthusiast and unabashed foodie
Q: What are your favorite things to do/see/eat in Westside Atlanta?
Q: Tell us about Westside Arts District and the art walk
A: I love to eat at Bacchanalia, when my budget allows it. It is by far the best restaurant in Atlanta, in my opinion. Even though I am not shopping for myself, Sid Mashburn is one of my favorite shops in Atlanta. I always feel incredibly welcome and the service is beyond extraordinary. Their old record player spinning Bob Dylan and their ping-pong table are an added treat! One of my favorite ways to spend a Sunday is eating breakfast at Thumb’s Up Diner and then walking over to the Atlanta Contemporary Arts Center to catch their exhibition. I am thrilled with the progress in this area over the short two year period since we opened.
A: The Westside Arts District, or WAD, incorporates 10 galleries and the Atlanta Contemporary Arts Center on the Westside of Atlanta. We strive to cross-market, idea share and create programs that involve both the community and local artists. The art walk takes place on the third Saturday of each month, and each gallery along with ACAC, typically provides an artist talk, performance, film screening, or other stimulating programming in an effort to create an activity for those in the community seeking to participate in arts related events. The walk, in conjunction with WAD, has brought our area some very positive attention, as well as helped to put the Westside on the city’s radar.
