Hey Mom, Hey Dad A kid muses on what life would be like if he was calling the shots

M

y Mom and Dad said that Mother’s Day is May 8 and Father’s day is June 19! Dad said Mother’s Day means we should tell Mom we love her and give her a day at Spa Sentio. Mom said that Father’s Day is when Dad gets to play bocce and drink beer at Ormsby’s. Parents are weird. If I was a Mommy or Daddy, I’d eat like 14 scoops of ice cream or maybe give my kids huge water blasters and let them TRY to drench me. But I guess I don’t mind too much if we celebrate Mother’s and Father’s day at Westside Provisions District. Rachel from Seed Factory always lets me color, and Chef Patric from West Egg makes the best cupcakes in the world. A day at WSPD almost makes the idea of growing up seem pretty cool.

Handbag Collection, Stinson Scarf Collection and Essential pouches in white, black, denim and orange. Mom might also like the Inverness Fringe Throw, Cortes Blanket or Big Sur Weekender Bag. For Dad: Tokens & Icons wallets, bottle openers and cuff links from Terra Cottage or wooden magnifying glasses from Bungalow. For Mom: Beautiful candles handcrafted by Perrine Prieur or faux Phalaenopsis orchids and lovely Tourron Pottery from Bungalow Classic.

Here are just a few of our favorite things this season for Mother’s and Father’s day.

For both: Stainless Steel tiki torches by Blomus at Kolo Collection, weathered wheel mirrors from Savvy Snoot, Two-for-one private sessions and classes at CORE Westside (Mothers & Fathers day weekends only), and - always a classic - fresh cut flowers or custom terrariums from GARDEN.

S

how Mama the love with a special brunch, lunch or supper this Mother’s day. You’ll find an option to fit any mood or budget at Westside Provisions District. Wake Mom up with a West Egg Café brunch, complete with daily specials, cocktails and maybe even a house-made red velvet whoopie pie. Brunch is served 8am to 5pm every weekend. Or, surprise Mom with a special prix fixe Mother’s Day luncheon at James Beard award winner Bacchanalia. ($65 per person, 12pm to 4pm Sunday May 8.) Better yet, bring the whole family for gourmet southern comfort food served family style at JCT’s “Sunday Supper,” only $24 per person. For Father’s Day, give Pops a night out at Ormsby’s. This neighborhood tavern offers an extensive craft beer selection, a fresh pub menu and a wide range of diversions such as bocce ball, shuffleboard and backgammon to keep the old man feeling young.

Faces of Westside Provisions District

Meet WSPD Marketing Assistant Lindalisa Severo, proud Italian, diehard Yankee fan, site director of LegalOut.com, Downtown/ Westside resident and devotee of all things Westside

Q: What is your favorite thing to do on the Westside? A: I love hanging out with my friends on an outdoor patio. Some of my favorite Westside patio pasttimes are the rooftop bar at 5 Seasons Brewing Company, Weiner Wednesdays at JCT, pasta with Siciliana sauce at Figo and coffee and treats at West Egg Café. Q: Got any hobbies? A: Many! I played softball in college, so I enjoy playing in the Decatur Softball League. I am also a big fan of the beltline and of going on urban hikes. Trying new microbrews is one of my favorite things; Kraig at Hop City is great about suggesting beers that match my mood. I’ve also been known to play a mean game of bocce at Ormsby’s Q: Any parting words? A: “Westside is the best side” (giggling ensues)

Urban Chic Garden Party

Kick off the High Museum’s Artful Garden Tour with a reception to remember at Westside Provisions District, May 12, 7pm to 10pm. Then, take the Artful Garden tour on May 14 from 10am to 5pm, rain or shine

T

he High Museum’s Artful Garden tour is a springtime highlight in Atlanta. With Pleinair painters working in the gardens and local artists showcasing their designs, the Artful Garden tour is as much about celebrating art as it is about celebrating Atlanta’s beautiful springtime colors. This year’s tour takes place on Saturday May 14 from 10am to 5pm. To kick off the tour, the High is holding an Urban Chic Garden Party at WSPD on May 12 from 7pm to 10pm. With live music, complementary beer and wine, a signature cocktail, silent auction and appetizers from all the WSPD restaurants, the Urban Chic Garden Party promises a good time for a good cause. Tickets are $30 and are available at high.org/gardentour.

The Green Scene

Atlanta celebrated Earth Day with events all over the city this past April 22. Kolo Collection co-owner Greg Martin got into the spirit and dished about some of his favorite eco-friendly outdoor product lines in this guest feature

S

ustainable décor isn’t limited to homes constructed from recycled PET bottles or lowimpact woodland shelters dug into hillsides. Ecofriendly décor spans the gamut from high design to family friendly. Kolo Collection carries two lines of furniture that fit into the “green” scene. Loll Designs (lolldesigns.com) from Minnesota features durable furniture and cool designs made from 100% post consumer HDPE - milk jugs. Jensen Leisure (jensenleisurefurniture.com) creates durable and stylish furniture from 100% FSC certified Ipé wood (pronounced e-pay). The wood is harvested from a 2.5 million acre forest on a 25 year rotation that in essence creates an infinite supply of timber.
