Yoforia: Yogurt Everyone Will Love

LuLuLemon: Yogi Love

Kids and parents alike will love the delicious organic yogurt from Yoforia

WSPD is expanding its fashion offerings this summer with the addition of LuLuLemon Athletica

fter their own kids left the nest, husband and wife team Candy and Curtis Wooten were looking for new business opportunities to occupy them as they entered their next phase of life. After searching high and low, they finally settled on opening a Yoforia location simply because the product was so superior. “I wanted something I could feed my grandchildren,” owner Candy Wooten explained, “Yoforia yogurt is organic and so delicious, I just fell in love with it.” Choose from a variety of fresh flavors such as pomegranate and green tea, and then top your creation with fresh fruit, candy, graham crackers and all manner of yummy goodies. Learn more about Yoforia at yoforia.com.

fter twenty years in the surf, skate and snowboard business, founder Chip Wilson took the first commercial yoga class offered in Vancouver and found the result exhilarating. The post-yoga feeling was so close to surfing and snowboarding that it seemed obvious that yoga was an ideology whose time had come (again). Founded in 1998, lululemon’s first real store opened in the beach area of Vancouver BC called Kitsilano, in November of 2000. Today, lululemon has stores all over the world. In the summer of 2012, they’ll be bringing their yoga-inspired athletic gear to WSPD. Visit lululemon.com to learn more.

t seems silly to say, but WSPD is place where dreams are made. Maybe you came to WSPD for a first date; maybe you proposed to your fiancé in the photobooth at West Egg Café or took “save the date” photos on our bridge; or maybe you shopped here to outfit your new baby’s nursery or furnish your dream home. The proprietors of WSPD’s mom and pop restaurants and boutiques came here to fulfill their dreams too. Couples like Anne and Clifford of Bacchanalia and Randy and Courtney of Bungalow took a chance pioneering businesses in an untested part of Atlanta. Business partners Roy and Doug of Switch Modern, fed up with the poor service they’d received while installing a custom kitchen, came to the Westside to open their own high-end kitchen shop, which has since expanded to include accessories, furnishings, and design services. After their kids grew up and left home, Candy and Curtis Wooten of Yoforia fell in love with a great product--organic, fresh yogurt--and took a leap of faith opening their first franchise at WSPD. Then there are Jen and Ben from West Egg and Greg and Michelle from Kolo Collection, who quit the corporate world to follow their bliss in retail. The couples of WSPD each have really good stories to go with the “really good stuff” they sell. Visit us at westsidepd.com for more really good stuff. Ben & Jen Johnson, West Egg Café 4

Faces of Westside Provisions District

Meet Robin Bernat, owner/curator of Poem88, veteran artist, poet on demand, and Westside devotee. Visit Robin at Poem88, located in the 1100 Howell Mill Road building at White Provision, or online at poem88.net

Q: Tell us about Poem88. A: Poem88 exhibits emerging and established artists, presents performances, film screenings and lectures, and seeks to engage the community in a dialogue about visual art.

Pop-Up Madness

Q: Poem88 hosts a variety of performances as well as installations of visual art, right? A: Yes! I think of it as a modern-day salon, a place where people can explore art and multi-discipinary performances within a community. The emerging art scene on Atlanta’s Westside is at a tipping point; we are at a size where a real collaborative spirit is possible between artist and audience.

oasters aren't the only thing popping up these days. "Flash" retail shops and restaurants are setting the scene on fire in markets all over the country. It's no surprise; pop-up shopping is a winwin for just about everyone involved. The trend helps property owners like Jamestown energize shopping districts with short-term leases while giving business owners the chance to test a new market. Most importantly, clients get to discover brands they may not be able to find anywhere else.

Q: Tell me about Free Poems on Demand A: It’s a guerrilla-style poetry collective started by Jimmy Lo. I’m one of several poets who participate. Give us a topic, and we’ll write you a poem. In fact, we’ll be here at Poem88 on Sunday, February 12th to write Free Love Poems on Demand for whomever wants one.

Recently, Chelsea Market in New York City took popup dining to a whole new level with the introduction of JBF LTD - the most exciting pop-up food pavilion and restaurant New York has ever seen. But NYC isn't the only place where flash retail is popping up. Last year, Warehouse Row in Chattanooga, TN, paired designers Billy Reid and Alabama Chanin with regional culinary favorite Blackberry Farm for "Crafted by Southern Hands," a weekend of food tastings and one-of-a-kind shopping celebrating the spirit of the South. 999 Peachtree in Atlanta, GA recently hosted a series of pop-up shops in conjunction with Fashion's Night Out, and right here in WSPD, we recently presented Tinsel and Twine, a 4-day pop-up shopping event, which brought merchants like Arboreal and FM Allen to the district. But pay attention! Pop-ups come and go quickly by design.
