WORKSHOP PUBLICITY & EXPERIENCE

Innovative new Bicycle Lights aim to reveal the cyclist’s width; show more surface area of the rider and reduce blind-spots front & rear. With the target of being seen earlier, increasing driver’s thinking time and hopefully reducing cycling accidents. Cycle accidents are on the rise. An increase in cycling popularity has created a surge of cyclists on our UK roads, unfortunately this has contributed to an increase in serious injuries and fatalities whilst riding. Introducing Bicycle Lights, an innovative set of lights that aim to expose the rider in all their glory.

BRIEF. Final Signature Project (Development and Realisation) PROJECT DATE. 03/14

Aimed at beginners to professionals; mountain bikes to road racers, Bicycle Lights will fit any bike, any rider. With high power LEDs and an illuminated torso, you’ll bound to be seen while commuting, training or just on a gentle cycle.

Bicycle Lights features two Cree LEDs in each light, one parallel to the ground, the other aimed at 45° towards the rider. Delivering upto 20hrs run time with removable batteries, you’ll never be in the dark again! The rear light clamps around your seatpost and is adjustable in length to fit any bike, any rider. The front light mounts onto your handlebars using a silicone ring, and comes with a removable lens cover to prevent glare entering your eyes. Both lights are removable from their mounts for security and convenience.

WATER MONITOR BRIEF. Develop a product/system /object to reduce water usage for Water Water Everywhere brief RSA-Severn Trent Competition PROJECT DATE. 11/13 Designed to reduce water usage in urban environments, the Water Monitor tracks the consumers usage, and uses a traffic light system to display when usage limits are met. Using a smart meter, the Monitor can display real-time billing for the consumer, by using radio frequency to connect to the smart meter and Severn Trent. If the consumer does not have a meter fitted, they can opt for the Home Meter to track water usage. All products are completely waterproof and made from ABS

Home Meter Fitting water meters nationwide is not cost effective for water companies and the consumer still doesnt know their water usage or the cost. This solution can help consumers understand their water bill, when and where it is being used and how much. Hopefully it is more immediate and cost effective method to managing water usage. The Water Monitor concept was presented by myself at Interiors UK ‘14, as a Lightning Talk speaker.

Once inserted into the chosen drawer, the sliding panels can be moved whenever necessary along the smooth dovetail runners; perfect for problematic utensils. Each panel element features an embedded cast metal piece, creating a sophisticated and contemporary contrast. Using this metal detail the sliding panels can be relocated with ease. BRIEF. LAWNEDGER

Revolutionary new lawn edger uses body weight to push away soil, producing a clean, straight edge with excess soil away from edge. The half moon plates pull apart using a torsion spring, and retract automatically leaving the user to continue with lawn. The ergonomic grips provide support and comfort for the user, allowing them to enjoy their hobby of gardening for longer. Focused at elderly and disabled users to deliver maximum comfort and ease of use with minimum effort.

BRIEF. Develop a product or object that can be used in the garden environment for pleasure, work or commerical use. PROJECT DATE. 01/13

A mechanical model was constructed as shown left. Testing with a range of users proved my design was successful, edging the lawn producing a clean, straight cut. Future options of a curved and extended version with a telescopic handle were designed and planned.

3D MODELLING & GRAPHICS

Using Solidworks, a CAD modelling software, detailed designs can be communicated clearly, in little time with a high level of accuracy. Providing a realistic representation of the design solution. After a meeting with the President of Engineers Without Borders, a range of logos were designed, with the final logo as shown, currently being used.

WORKSHOP Experienced in a range of workshop tools, materials and modelling, produced to a high standard of detail and accuracy. Models throughout my portfolio were formed at my home workshop or university. Naturally feel at home in a workshop, designing, building and taking things apart. Accomplished in an array of materials and processes to communicate a desired design proposal.

PUBLICITY Featured in the May 2014 edition of the BIAD newsletter, highlighting my placement at Burbidge & Son. Also featured as a student profile on the Birmingham City University’s website.
