Hello! My name is Jamie Ortega! I am an incoming senior at Rancho Cucamonga High School, involved in Key Club, CSF, NHS, and Student Achievement. I am an extremely outgoing and quirky person that loves to draw and paint on my free time. Some of my favorite shows include The Office, Bob’s Burgers, and Steven Universe. My favorite color is grey because its a mix of black and white, and I couldn’t choose which was better. I know how to play the piano, ukulele, and drums, and occasionally I sing for fun! My favorite music artist is Rex Orange County. Some of the most important things in my life are family & my faith. I have two older brothers and one older sister, making me the youngest in the family. My family loves to travel and go on crazy, spontaneous adventures together, but we also take the time to sit down and grow in our faith together.

Mostly influenced by our religion and faith, I grew up attending various service events such as feeding the homeless on thanksgiving, donating backpacks with school supplies to elementary schools, and walking for multiple organizations.

My Key Club journey began even before I was in high school. With my older brother and sister being part of Key Club, I was introduced to the club and grew a huge amount of respect for those involved. Since I was a young kid, my

parents taught us about the importance of serving for others.

Going into high school, there was a lot of pressure in finding “your place and group of people you would begin to create memories and strong relationships with. I joined multiple clubs, but Key Club was not like any other. Compared to other clubs, the OHANA aspect of Key CLub kept me motivated to serve while still enjoying my experience. Many of the members did not solely care about being able to brag on their college applications and showed that they truly cared about the impact they would make on their community. It is through Key Club that I have met some of my closest friends.

Everytime I come to a Key Club event, whether it be a service or social, I find myself falling in love with the club each time. From meeting new people to experiencing things you’ve never done before, such as sorting through various essential items and throwing them into care packages. It is also the reward of seeing the impact we have on the community and seeing a great number of diverse students come together to make a change. Everyone in Key Club shows nothing but love, and I believe that it is this kind and accepting atmosphere that sets it apart from all others. Because I loved this club so much, I wanted to be as involved in it as I could. Freshman year I became Freshman Representative and would later move on to division positions in the future years. The positions that I have held have only grown

me into a stronger and more effective leader, which I hope will continue to evolve. I’ve learned how to become more accountable, responsible, confident, and compassionate. Key Club has truly changed my life, and I strongly believe that my high school experience would not be the same without it.

SO WHY DNE‌ Ever since I fell in love with Key Club, I wanted to further my involvement as a way to create a greater impact on my community and others around me. To be completely honest, it just did not feel enough to simply be involved in my home club. One of the primary factors of my desire to do more is when my sister, Jessica, became LTG for the 2018-2019 term. It is through her term that I

realized all the behind the scenes work and detail that goes into planning and assuring that members are getting the full Key Club experience they deserve. The passion she had for the club inspired mine, and I was able to find ways to use my strengths to help her throughout her term in any way I could. From sorting division t-shirts, just the two of us, in our garage, to signing in members at the DCM--

I enjoyed every part of it. For the 2019-2020 term, I had no doubt in my mind that taking part of the division was right for me. I was giving myself the opportunity to reach out to students outside my home club while learning how to better myself as a leader through my Public Relations Chair position. From this position, I focused on time management, member involvement, and creativity! Running the division Instagram was not always easy, as graphics had to be made and constant advertising had to be done. One of the advertisements that I was the most proud of was the Tic Toks that I had created with my friends for the November DCM. These two 60 second videos received so much feedback and member interaction with about 2,500 views overall.

I believe that in taking the DNE position for the division I could continue using my creative abilities to advertise, celebrate, and highlight the best things about Key Club. I want to reach more people and show them just how strong and amazing division 15 north truly is. We are a great big OHANA, and the more we celebrate and recognize it, hopefully more members become dedicated and passionate for this club. I may not have all the experience, but life is a learning process that is all about continuous growth, which I am so ready for.
