REPUTATION the most anticipated SIRE GROUP of 2023

Two years in, and I couldn’t possibly be more thankful and excited to be a partner with Overmiller Red Angus & Feddes/C-T on what I consider to be the most highly anticipated, and most widely appreciated Red Angus bull in recent years. Most know, our catalog or supplement sheet is folded up in our pocket when we start searching through an offering of bulls. I still have videos on my phone, the day 0094 came into view within his contemporaries. Unusually dark hided for a Red Angus bull, he was ripped up with a muscular outline, and a crest and presence that I associate with the most masculine, fertile kind. Upon closer study, his feet were truly immaculate. He reached off both ends with incredible athleticism, coming and going with an honest, opened-up width and density. As I turned to the paper to understand what I was looking at, I was elated that the bull read as a leader in his figures as well. A Red Rock son, known for calving ease, he also charted into the top percentiles for performance and growth. Balanced in his carcass figures, and then recognizing the immortal C-T Linsey 0964 was his grandmother, this was the bull I had been searching for all spring. Fast forward to the summer of 2022, I stopped into Kelly & Brent Overmiller’s to see how he had matured. I once again took a photo of how unbelievably good his feet had stayed and got even more excited about what we had found. Calving our bred heifers serviced by him, I got reports of phenomenal calving ease and a problem free, positive experience for the females. Jake has been extremely complimentary of the sire group all this past summer long, and once I was able to evaluate his sons this winter, I can confirm, this is truly a bull that checks all of the boxes. Semen has been kept exclusive between his owners, and only once were three units offered as a donation to the Bet on Red in Reno, Nevada, garnering $1,120.00 per unit. We will continue to keep C-T Reputation 0094 closed to semen sales for the time being, until our firms are content with the progeny retained in herd. Here in lies the first offering of his sons, and I’m confident we are witnessing the beginning of a bull that will have a longstanding impact on the Red Angus breed in its entirety.

Nio Sacrifice 2010

As the bulls took their turns through the picture pen, this Reputation son out of a Profitbuilder first-calf heifer, hit me like a ton of bricks. Stunning to evaluate phenotypically, he is a stout, ripped up, long bodied, powerful rascal with a ton of presence. Extremely athletic and solid in his foot, he reads with tremendous longevity and heavy use. Top 1% WW with an Adjusted WW of 786 lbs., Top 1% YW with an Adjusted YW of 1,370 lbs., and the 2nd Highest ADG in the entire offering, here’s a calving ease option that will, without a doubt, add a substantial amount of weight into anyone’s calf crop. Top 10% GM with a seriously balanced set of carcass figures, the fed side of his offspring will garner premiums as well. NIO Sacrifice 2010 is a bull that has hit every mark and is a “must-see” in person.

One of my favorites, this Reputation son is as big-middled, massive and three dimensional as any of his brothers on offer. Extremely sound and relaxed in his skeleton, this bull is built to last. Backed by a Darkhorse first calf heifer, we are extremely proud of our Darkhorse daughters in production. They’re arguably as versatile in their phenotype and genotype as anything we own, and always wean off big calves. With an Adjusted WW of 799 lbs., this was the heaviest Reputation son at weaning, and still hits the Top 10 Adj. YW bulls with 1,248 lbs. Top 1% Milk, Top 5% WW, Top 5% YW, this bull has the potential to produce incredible daughters that will entice you to keep every single one. We tried as hard as we could through the 30 mph winds to get everything pictured, but this stud didn’t make it through the pen in time. That said, I went back to find him, and he’s definitely one of my favorites in the Reputation sire group. Another stunning calving ease bull that reads true though his head, neck, and shoulder, 2028 needs found on sale day; he just may be your favorite of the entire set. Backed by a gorgeous Dominion daughter, this bull also had a phenomenal day during scans with a 124 IMF Ratio, combining that with his already Top 10% REA EPD. Top 10% Milk, this is a true combination bull that should keep calving problem free, and make his fed offspring bring a premium.

Talk about a combination bull, you’ll search a while trying to find one that does everything 2009 does. Calved at 74 lbs. from a beautiful John Wick daughter, this bull is a true curve bender in the offering. Top 10% WW, Top 10% YW, Top 10% REA, and scans with an REA ratio of 110, what more can you ask for. Reputation, John Wick, calving ease, performance, and carcass… sign me up.

Another absolute knockout Reputation son that is deep, dark red in color, 2027 is as good looking as they get. A bull I took multiple photos of on picture day, the maternal side of this bull’s pedigree is Niobrara gold. A John Wick on the Alana 13X cow, we can’t make a pedigree more bulletproof and progressive. Top 10% YW & Top 10% REA, this 76 lb. calving ease bull covers a lot of bases. A sleep-all-night heifer bull that still charts in the Top 10% for WW, YW, & REA, 2015 carries the look of a true calving ease bull. Sleek through his front end, yet still powerful and a herd bull look, the maternal side of his pedigree speaks to the problem free nature we see in this Reputation son; Cries for War is still to this day probably the safest heifer bull we’ve ever sampled.

The highest IMF Ratio of the entire offering at a 207! Here’s a bull I think will make a lot of folk’s lists. Where else do you find bulls this balanced in their traits? The biggest spread bull of the Reputation sons, here’s a dark, dark red Reputation, from one of our best first-calf heifers. His mother, 0050, is a Merlin out of the C302 donor cow, that’s put some of the very best bulls in this year’s offering. -2.5 to 128, 2012 is one of the Top 10 genotype bulls in the entire sale; a Top 10 GM Index that’s also Top 2% REA, Top 5% WW, Top 4% YW. NIO Palermo 2273 has been a ground-pounding Mack truck since the very early days. Honestly, I’ve never seen a Red Angus bull maintain this much mass, dimension, capacity, and muscle the whole way through. A great footed bull that’s still sound in his structure, NIO Palermo 2273 is the kind of bull that I’d imagine seeing in Argentina at their largest, most prestigious livestock show. Two words. Hidee Ho. Arguably the most recognized cow in the breed hits it out of the park again with this full brother to one of 2022’s High Sellers, NIO Bad Medicine 1126, bringing $40,000 for Half Interest to Sunberry Valley & U2Q. A cow that literally just doesn’t miss, this mating by Resource has clicked every single time. A full sister to Lot 15 was also named the Grand Champion Red Angus Female at the 2022 NWSS. More recently, another full sister sold in the 2022 Flash & Function Sale, bringing $45,000. If you’re a believer in consistency within cow families, Hidee Ho 459D may just be the most consistent cow in the Niobrara program. Stout, ripped up, big middled, stunning through his front end, and still very sound at the ground, this future herd bull does it all.

If you’re looking for a ripped-up, muscular, powerful, longbodied one with a herd-bull presence, find Lot 16 on sale day. Unfortunately, this past year, we lost the famous VF Lakota C302 donor cow. Simply put, she had produced some of the best daughters we had ever retained in herd. Her sons had topped past bull sales and are currently working in some of the most reputable Red Angus herds across the country. Again, in this year’s sale, we will offer four ET sons including some of the most exciting Black, Red Carrier bulls we’ve ever marketed, offered as Lot 63 & 64. This Entourage son has had “the look” since early summer, and he’s one powerful dude. Cresty, masculine, shapely and stout, he’s as rugged in his build and appearance as any bull in the sale. With a balanced set of carcass figures and added performance, here’s a curve-bending bull that could take any operation forward.

One of my favorite bulls in the offering, here’s a red hided Blackbird 107X son, sired by Resource 137E. This bull knows he’s good and stands proud every time you find him. Enormous in his center body, he’s an extremely stout constructed, wide-bodied bull that moves exceptionally well for the amount of mass he carries. Blackbird 107X has been gone for quite a while now, but her influence on the Niobrara cow herd is everlasting. Her daughters continuously raise some of the biggest, stoutest calves we have to offer every year. Full disclosure, this bull is used to being the king of the pen and he was a little fast in the pen on picture day. That aside, I wouldn’t hesitate to bring him home because of the big impact I think this bull can make.

It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you live, or what your priorities are… you’ll want to take this bull home. NIO Mojave 2029 is an extremely unique animal and has been since Day 1. For the phenotype gurus out there, that love to evaluate cattle, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a Red Angus bull like this before. His mother, Six Mile Kassie 535F, is a standout Peak Dot Unanimous daughter that we selected in Six Mile’s Genetic Focus sale back in 2018. A phenomenal udder structure, great feet, and a massive, stout structured build that doesn’t take long to find in the pasture, 2029 gets his look honestly. His sire, U2 Nova 627F injected an immense amount of power, muscle, shape, length, and extended his front end with a killer look from the side. For a bull to be this ripped up, and still shaped as seamlessly as he is from his shoulder all the way back to his hip, is extremely hard to do. Flawless in his build with a solid, dark foot underneath of him, he moves effortlessly. On top of his impossible look, NIO Mojave 2029 had a WW Ratio of 118, with an Adj. WW of 856 lbs., a YW Ratio of 112, with an Adj. YW of 1313, and accordingly ranks Top 3% WW, and Top 10% YW. With a very conservative 87 lbs. at birth, this is an honest curve-bender in our program that we are thrilled to use back in herd.
