Entrance Year : 2010 2. Introduction of UKM-Global Student Mobility Partnership UKM-Global Student Mobility Partnerships (UKM-GSMP) is the 3 summer inbound programme, usually take place in July - August annually. Starting in year 2009, this year as the 5th edition of this programme. In this programme, international student joined the local student in 3 weeks educational tour around Malaysia. With the theme "Building Bridges for International Understanding and Friendship", this programme also aim to promote the awareness about the sustainable ecology and multiple unique culture around the world as well as to promote Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Malaysia itself as the world class international educational hub.

The Course Students can participate in either one of the following courses in this programme:
SKZA 2014, Indigenous Communities of Malaysia (ICM) This programme is under FSSK (Fakulti Sains Sosial dan Kemanusiaan/Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities) STPD 4044, Sustainability of Tropical Heritage (STH) This programme is under FST (Fakulti Sains Teknologi/Faculty of Science and Technology)
Students discovered knowledge on related issues and acquire first-hand experience when they conduct studies during their field-trips to the relevant sites in Peninsular Malaysia (such as National Park) and East Malaysia (Borneo Island). Upon successful fulfillment of course requirements, student was awarded 4 credits (subject to approval by respective home university). On 2013, the course duration is from August 15th until September 5th, happened for 3 weeks. Participants Over the Years Students from many countries participated in this programme. Students from Indonesia, represented by Universitas Andalas, are the first time participation in this programme. The students from Indonesia are Jamil Ihsan and Dori Lisnuari, both are from Faculty of Economic.

Introduction of Indigenous Communities of Malaysia Programme Course Structure The course on Indigenous Communities is coordinated by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UKM. The course introduces and provides participants with selected topics based on continuity and change of culture of indigenous communities in Malaysia. Course Content Participants from this course learned about the unique culture, recent marginalisation, the process of cultural transformation and the future of indigenous communities in Malaysia.

Core Objectives Specific objectives from this course Introduce students to the study of the unique cultures of indigenous communities in Malaysia and related issues Enable students to understand the communities’ history and recent marginalisation and the process of cultural transformation Allow students to experience at first hand and document visually various cultural elements of a specific indigenous communities Enhance students understanding of various forces that confront the traditions and culture of the indigenous communities Course Activities During the period of this programme, students participated in: 1 week of lecture session 2 weeks of field trips + presentation and closing ceremony The lecture session conducted by Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UKM. Students participated in field trips to: Historical trip to Melaka Putrajaya tour Gallery museum of Bank Negara Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Orang Asli community in Kampung Chueh II, Royal Belum Forest, Perak Matang Mangrove Conservation and Sustainable Industry, Taiping, Perak Fireflies observation at a mangrove swamp, Taiping, Perak Cultural activities in Sarakraf Pavilion (batik coloring, beads making, and pottery coloring) in Kuching Cultural visit to Sarawak Cultural Village, Kuching Historical visit to MBKS (Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan/Kuching South City Council) Gallery, Kuching Observation of Orang Utan at Semenggoh Wild Life Center, approximately 24 km from Kuching Homestay at Nanga Kesit, Iban’s Long House, in Nanga Ngemah, Sarawak Homestay at Kampung Melayu Tebakang, Serian, Sarawak Cost of the Programme USD 2,000.00 (inclusive of accomodations, food, course materials, field trips, and transportation in Malaysia).

5. Most of classes taken place in room Makmal Statistik II, FSSK, UKM, Bangi. During class session, I had time presenting Indonesia, especially Minangkabau culture, in front of the class. Learning method is more about student-center based, which involving students actively in the discussion. Although some of learning session was as same as in Indonesia, but the lecturers prepared interesting games and medias to increase student understanding about the lessons. Assignment given by the same way in Indonesia: group presentation. We created a group consist of 4-5 students, and then we presented about the lessons, based on sessions list. Every group has different topics.

6. Fieldwork Schedule Fieldwork was held along 17 days, consist of many places visited, (all places are mentioned on the table below). There are 15 sessions and 3 assignments during this programme. All of those sessions were conducted by the fun way. We, the participants, can feel and experience directly with objects that we already learnt before in the class. All cost during fieldwork were responsible by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. At the end of fieldwork schedule, there was a closing ceremony held in the Panggung Seni, UKM. The Vice Rector and all her Deputy in UKM attended the closing ceremony. On this closing ceremony, we performed Tari Indang, Poco-Poco, and some contemporary dance. The closing ceremony also attended by students in UKM, both local and international students.
