the shield back painted with the crest of Pares of Hopwell Hall Derbyshire, the scratch moulded seat on square tapered legs, seat height 46cm, back rail stamped H F Provenance: The present chairs were presumably supplied to Thomas Pares (1746-1824), who with his brother and two other partners founded Pares Bank in Leicester in 1800; Tur Langton House Sale, Heathcote Ball & Co, 22 April 1999, £1032 The stamped mark H F could well be that of Humphrey Ford who was apprenticed to Thomas Tippler of Derby and admitted freeman of Leicester in 1773.
