Identity Graphic Standards Manual

PUBLIC INFORMATION DEPARTMENT P.O. Box 129 Decatur, MS 39327 601.635.6303 | Fax 601.635.4398 ISSUE DATE JULY 2013

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Message from the President During the process of strategic planning that resulted in 2020 Vision for East Central Community College (ECCC), it became apparent that the college lacked a strong, unified visual identity that conveyed a consistent message to internal and external audiences and represented and promoted the quality and mission of ECCC. Over the years, the institution’s graphic identity has been fragmented, mainly due to the use and dissemination of several different college and athletics logos and symbols in several different shades of gold. Since the most basic component of a strong institutional identity is a unified visual presentation as well as consistent use of graphic standards that identify the college at a glance, it was imperative that the college adopt and implement official logos, symbols, and colors. After consultation with the design firms of Communication Arts Company (college) and Beam Team Design (athletics), their proposed college and athletics logos, symbols, and colors were officially adopted by the ECCC Board of Trustees on April 9, 2013.

Now, I am pleased to present to you ECCC’s new Identity Graphic Standards Manual. The manual has been created to familiarize members of the college community with ECCC’s official graphic logos, symbols, and colors as well as assist with the implementation of these identifiers easily and accurately. These graphic standards serve as an important part of the college’s branding process. Consequently, to ensure that our image is clear and consistent, it is essential that these graphic standards be followed carefully and implemented college-wide. The manual also offers useful guidelines for incorporating our visual image in a wide range of situations and environments. The college will make every effort to ensure that these guidelines are followed to help facilitate a consistent and appropriate image to the communities that we serve. Inconsistent use of graphics, logos, symbols, and color confuse audiences and undermine our message while the use of consistent visual images increase the college’s level of visibility and credibility, and enhances our image. This manual covers most, but not all, instances of the use of the college’s logos, symbols, and colors in printing and publications. The ECCC Public Information Department has been charged with maintaining and distributing the proper college logos, symbols, and colors. It is also their responsibility to review all applications of the institution’s logos, symbols, and colors to ensure compliance with the standards presented in the pages of this manual. The Public Information Department is available to assist individuals and departments to ensure that their communication vehicle and use of visual images meets the standards set by our college. The Public Information Department is also available to offer the guidance and technical support you need to consistently reinforce ECCC’s image to the communities we serve. Whenever in doubt on the use of graphic standards, please consult with the professionals in Public Information.

As members of the ECCC family, we all share in the responsibility to ensure college-wide compliance with these graphic standards. The adherence to these standards will enhance our image in the community. I look forward to seeing the new ECCC logo and graphic identity system in use across the campus and throughout our college service area and appreciate your support. Sincerely,

CO RR E C T U S A G E O F C O L L E G E IDE N T IF IC ATION Correct Usage In this Graphic Standards Manual we define Official College Identification Components, Signatures, Colors, their formal relationships and color usage. On this page, we illustrate suggested uses of these relationships in hypothetical layouts and offer basic guidelines for optimal use. 1. Use only officially provided encapsulated postscript (eps) files available through the College’s Public Information Office. 2. Maintain uniformity of proportion in scaling identification elements; do not modify or distort. 3. Observe minimum width recommendations for each of the College Identification Components and Signatures. 4. Using sound design practices, preserve distinctive qualities of individual identification components and signatures by using adequate visual clear space to surround them: Linear elements must be protected by no less than 5% of their width; Standard Signatures must be protected by no less than 15% of their width; and Compact elements must be protected by no less than 25% of their width. NOTE: Examples shown on this page are for demonstration only; they do not represent recommended sizes for signatures and components.

Using sound design practices, preserve distinctive qualities of individual identification components and signatures by using adequate visual clear space to surround them: Athletics Signatures and Mascot must be protected by no less than 5% of their width; Athletics Wordmarks and Wordmarks with Mascot must be protected by no less than 15% of their width.
