Rings... Featuring Friendly Plastic Cabochons

What better way to feature your FriendlyPlastic cabochons than as the focal piece in an amazing ring. Gather together the pictured supplies and lets get started.

These are the components I like to use to create a Pill Box style ring. A filigree ring bland, filigree bead cap and three different pronged oval settings.

Start by forming the ring around the ring mandrel. Use your fingers to bend the ring blank around the mandrel. Choose an area on the mandrel that measures smaller than your finger / ring size. Don’t worry about getting the ends bent right now, just focus on shaping a perfect curve.

Use the large barrel pliers to bend the ends, creating a perfect circle.

Next... give the bead cap a little whack with your hammer. Not too hard, just enough to bend and flatten the prongs.

Slide the ring base onto the mandrel. Position it, so it is snug enough... and wont move. Glue the bead cap as shown... onto the center of the ring base. Allow the glue to dry for about 20 minutes, to ensure a good bond.

Create an assembly line with the settings and cabochon.

Place the cabochon into the first setting.

Use the flat-nose pliers to bend and tighten the prongs down against the cabochon.

Now place the cabochon into the second setting. Again, use the pliers to bend and tighten the prongs down against the cabochon.

For the third setting... Apply a drop of glue into the setting. Now place the cabochon into the setting and give it a little press, securing it into place.

Apply glue to each of the four prongs of the bead cap.

Position and glue the cabochon onto the bead cap.

Keep the ring level and allow the glue to dry completely.
For a bit of added interest, add a filigree accent to the top of the cabochon like that, of the ring featured on the cover.
