Revitalizing Pearls at the Handri

Handri, a chemicallly contaminated and degrading river flowing through the city of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, India. The river is considered as a health hazard due to the presence of vast floating masses of surface pollutants and unfathomable levels of dissolved pollutants. Through the design, the river can be restored with the help of Bio-remediation. A series of islands placed like a pearl necklace harnessing bio-remediation flourishes with vegetation that thrives on plastics, chemicals, and other toxins. The design also incorporates a series of wetlands to prevent soil erosion and to promote vegetation nutrition and flood mitigation.
