Some facts about White Rust: •
The White Rust is made by the same elements of the normal patina, but in different proportions. It contains more zinc hydroxide and hydrated zinc than hydroxycarbonate.
•
White Rust has a different morphology and crystallographic structure
• White Rust usually appears in case of long periods of water condensation on surfaces on poorly aerated surfaces • Products soluble in water or corrosive agents like sulphates or chlorides, coming from the environment, may provoke White Rust formation. •
Any situation which prevents the contact between zinc and air during long periods may create White Rust How will White Rust evolve?
• If the causes for White Rust formation on zinc are fixed, then slowly & progressively (depending on the environment), It might disappear. •
White Rust might slowly disappear due to the Patina formation
•
The speed of evolution will depend on external conditions like rainfall & temperature but also building exposure and design
