“The man that hath no music in himself , nor is not mov’d with concord of sweer sound , is fit for treason , stratagems and spoils , The motions of his spirits are dull as night and his affections dark as erebus. Let no such man be trusted.” Many of you may have heard this phrase before, but if I ask you. How many of you do truly understand it deeply? This magazine captured all our love for Blues. Rocks Joe Red Amphitheatre Bonamassa show

When asking any musician which venues top their list to play, Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado always sits at the top! On August 31st 2014, Joe Bonamassa and Keeping the Blues Alive did just that, playing to a sold out crowd of 9000 people! The single largest crowd of Joe’s career and what a place to host a show! With each ticket sold, $5 was donated directly to Keeping the Blues Alive foundation, raising $40,000 to fund struggling music programs around the nation!

Flash Back 8

From the stunning Rocky Mountains surrounding the venue to the natural acoustics generated by the massive red rocks jutting up from within the earth, this venue is an awe inspiring sight to behold. Once underway, the show itself inspired just as much awe in the eyes of the fans as the venue did for me. Watching people sitting at the edge of their seats, singing along to every song and hanging on every word was enough to say that this was just as memorable of a night for them as it was for Joe.

As a part of this memory filled weekend, a group of very special fans had the chance to have the Ultimate Joe Bonamassa at Red Rocks Experience! Thanks to their generous contributions to our auctions hosted on Charity Buzz and EBay, Suzanne Bowen and Ira Goldberg along with three of their family and friends got to spend a very memorable weekend in the Rockies! After disembarking from their flights they were whisked away to the beautiful Hotel Monaco located right in the heart of downtown Denver where they enjoyed a 2 night stay over the weekend. From there, we had them picked up in a private limousine and taken to the private dress rehearsal show and BBQ with Joe and the crew. Their weekend didn’t end there, on Sunday they were invited back and enjoyed 2nd row seats at the big show! Needless to say this was a weekend that will not easily be forgotten! And of course we can’t forget the man of the hour, dressed in his signature black suit surrounded by a band of white tuxedos and fedoras, Joe was impeccable!

Flash Back 9

He played with all the confidence and class that we are accustomed to and seemed to not have a nervous bone in his body. Playing through a collection of some of Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters’ best songs, we were taken on a journey through some of the Blues’ most memorable moments. As our guide through this incredible journey Joe was gracious, visually excited, truly moved and as he said “it was a boy’s dream come true to play this venue, so from that boy to you, thank you so much.Colorado for making my dreams come true!” -Eric deTuscan.

“Simply

amazing both lyrically and musiclly, incredible performance. I love the mucisians.” Daveyjoe

It was always about the music. Jake and Elwood may have fronted the show, but to back them up they made sure to have the meanest, sickest line-up of badass blues cats ever assembled. These were the men behind Otis Redding, Booker T & the MGs, Muddy Waters, James Cotton, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, and the SNL Band -- just to name a few. These players have since emerged as a powerful entity in their own right, and although scheduling makes it difficult, they have played together sporadically over the past three decades. Since regrouping in 1988, the ‘Original’ Blues Brothers Band has triumphantly performed in international venues large and small, headlining at most of the jazz and blues festivals throughout Europe.

STEVE “The Colonel” CROPPER the best-known soul guitarist in the world. The original member of the Blues Brothers band. A Major figure in the Southern soul movement of the ‘60s. In the ‘80s, he rode the classic STAX sound back to popularity with a new audience when actors John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd tapped him for service in The Blues Brothers. “Blue” LOU MARINI one of the most sought after session horn players on saxophone, flute and clarinet. the original member of the Blues Brothers band. Longtime Joe Bonamassa followers have never had to wait too long to hear new material from the guitar virtuoso, with a new studio album or live effort surfacing almost every year in recent memory, however attentive fans will recognize that the recently released “Different Shade of Blue” marks Bonamassa’s first album of all-new material in two years. While the wait has been comforted by an array of not just one, but five full-length live albums earlier this year,

Let’s enjoy updating 10 blues albums chart, come see if your favourite album hits the first place on the chart.

Highlight 13

“Different Shade of Blue” delivers a familiar compilation of soulful, hard hitting blues rock indigenous to the style previously incorporated on Bonamassa’s earlier efforts. Joe Bonamassa isn’t afraid to let his heart and soul out in the songs which comprise “Different Shade of Blue,” which allows these blues compositions to really issue an impact.

JOE BONAMASSA

“November 8, 2014 marked exactly 25 years that Bonamassa has been playing as a professional musician.”

His debut studio album, A New Day Yesterday was released in 2000 and features both original tunes and covers of such artists as Rory Gallagher, Jethro Tull, and Warren Haynes. Eric Clapton performed during the show along with Bonamassa.Bonamassa’s live album Beacon Theatre–Live from New York was released in 2012. The show featured one of Bonamassa’s musical heroes, Paul Rodgers, formerly of the bands Free and Bad Company, as a guest. Over the summer of 2013, Bonamassa performed four shows in London featuring three different bands and, at one show, a horn section, covering four different sides of his music. Each show had a unique setlist. The shows were recorded for a DVD release and the set of DVDs was released in October, 2013 under the name “Tour de Force.”

MOORE

STILL GOT

Still Got the Blues is a 1990 album by guitarist Gary Moore. Prior to this album Moore’s work had consisted of predominantly jazz-fusion with Colosseum II and rock and hard rock styles, including his work with Skid Row, Thin Lizzy, G-Force, as well as a large repertoire of solo work. This album, as evidenced by its title, was a departure from hard rock to an electric blues style. Still Got the Blues was assisted by contributions from Albert King,

TALK WITH BLUES INTERVIEW THE INSTRUCTOR

Interview of the insteuctor of “Mr.Koh Saxman” an outstanding artist in Thailand who always shown up with saxophone.

Mr. NOPA+ DOL CHIM TUAM 1. What makes Blues different from the others ? In your opinion ?

2. Why you keep playing music ? Don’t you feel boring ?

3. What do you like in Blues & Jazz ?

4. 5. How do you think How do you think about Blues & being an artist ? Jazz in our country ?

6. Do you think Blues & Jazz will be more famous in Thailand ?

A : “Blues is the kind of music which gives a chance for the artists to show their own opinions. Opinion in this place means “Improvication” For instance, you follow the recipe to cook a main dish, this is the form of “Classic music” but Blues is not. Blues is like when you try to cook something, you know all the directions and you also add more spices or add your own ingredients to make it unique up on your style. So all artists will show their improvication differently from each other in each songs. Blues is out of frame.”

A : “I absorb the music from my family, my father and my older brother have been played the music before I was born. So I see a lots, hear a lots. I live among the sound of music. Even I grew up I work with music. It seems like I am a part of music and music is a part of my life. For me music is my best friend who I can talk to, when I have a trouble, when I am happy, when I feel bored. I know I will feel better after I pick up an instrument and started playing it out lound.”

A : “Actually, I am pretty good in using emotions. When I talk, I uaually talk by using tones. Sometime I speak lound and sometimes I speak very soft. So compare to Blues & Jazz, I think the characteristic of these kinds of music is like when the people having some conversation. Like, talking between you and I, like talking between instruments in Blues & Jazz songs.

A : If compare Blues & Jazz with Painting. It similar to the abstract painting. Any people who listen a song can think in different perspective. I think Blues & Jazz is not famous in Thailand till our king started to create some song such as “HM Blues”(Cha-ta-chee-vit) “Near dawn”(Klai-rung) “The candle light”(Sang Tiean). After that, Thai people started to listen more about Blues.

A : I am not sure that in the future Thai people will listen more about Blues & Jazz or not. It maybe famous in Thailand inthe future and hopefully Thai people will understand more about the characteristic of Blues and Jazz, understand more about the back ground of Blues and learn how to use it, how to adapt Blues and Jazz with the others music. I hope that Thai people will not listen Blues & Jazz just because to follow the trend but they will listen those stuffs because they really understand the kind of music.

Talk with Blues 18

A : I am very HAPPY ! I didn’t work directly as the artist like a singer but I am the teacher I teach the people out there how to use the instrument, how to compose a song, how to arrenge things. Music is not what just a song with drums pattern but that pattern can be call “music” because the composer of that song really understand what is music.

OUTSIDE THE BOX MUSIC AND ART ACTIVITY

A column that will ignite your world of inspiration into a wider range through a creatively unique activity in a little town called Pai.

We start off with opening the blues songs. After that we distribute papers, they start expanding their imagination onto the paper through all the colorful crayons. They soon then grabs all the people attention, but were not distracted. They were all concentrated on their piece of art. Each of them has their own unique style of the way they thinks and imagination toward blues without the topic of drawing. Also, They feel relaxing while drawing with the blues songs.

Pai is a little town located in the city of Maehongsorn. Pai secure their people and visitors from big city excitedly, people come here to escape from confusions. Pai is filled of rich natural resources. Many visitors travel here to seek their own purpose of inspiration in life. There are high majority of musicians who travel along here due to the wide range of music genres. Music is one of the factors in this town flavour. Today we present the activity, that we called the ‘Blues and Art’ and as an activity we put together with art and Blues. We open Blues music while we let the kids at the ages of 3-7 draw their imagination out loud without any boundaries.

Which open from the afternoon till approximately 10 PM. You will find all sorts of people from local Thais to foreigners from around the world. There are all sorts of little shops along the street. Many open hat shows were performing along the walk. We met one group of kids performing their tribal music. From the first sights that we saw them we knew they has the love for music more than other normal kids will do. So we walk up to them.

Activity 27

The next place we went to do the ‘Blues and Art’ activity is at the village of ethnic Karen. Which is a village full of Karen tribes living their daily life. This village is one of the most peaceful scenic. But we went there in not a very good timing, there were only one kid in the Karen village at the time we went. However, we still conducted our activity with this little 3 years old girl. Age is not an obstacle that is what she proved to us. She start picking a crayon and draw her imagination onto the paper, while we open Blues in the background. Surprisingly, during the song she starts to mumbling along the song.

After we conducted all the activities we came up with an idea thar somehow art and blues do has a path that could go together. Also we did gave them a spark of art and Blues inspiration to them, that is what important that has measured that we succeed our goal.

To sum up the ‘Blues and Art’ activity, it is proved that Blues expand kids imagination into wider rage. Serprisingly kids at the age of 3 to 7 years old seems to enjoy the Blues like the way we enjoyed it too.
