Marketing in the Digital Age with Megan Thomas

Meet Megan Thomas, the heart and soul behind Social Coverage Collective. With a background in hospitality and a genuine passion for building connections, Megan invites female insurance professionals to explore a whole new way of driving success in the digital world— where genuine relationships meet powerful marketing, leading to leads that are not only abundant but also a joy to work with. In the ever-evolving landscape of social media algorithms, staying up-to-date with the latest trends and changes is vital for effective reach and visibility. To shed light on this topic, we sat down with Megan Thomas, a communication skills advisor and social media expert, to discuss her strategies for tailoring social media marketing approaches to maximize online presence and engagement for insurance agents.

Q1: Megan, how do you stay informed about the latest social media trends and changes to ensure effective reach and visibility for insurance agents' content?

Megan: I follow reputable sources like Adam Mosserri, the Later blog, and other big names in the social media world. Additionally, I'm always testing!

Analyzing the content's performance, what's working, what's not, and trying new things helps me stay ahead.

10| INSURANCE BOSSBABES MAGAZINE
An Interview with Megan Thomas

Q2: Tailoring social media marketing for insurance agents can be challenging How do you ensure their content connects with their target audience while highlighting their expertise?

Megan: I include content about various types of insurance, but I add a twist to infuse the agent's brand personality into the post. People connect with people, not just insurance. So, while the content is tailored to insurance, we focus on setting the agent as an expert, providing valuable knowledge, and creating a memorable brand.

Q3: Can you share some successful social media campaigns you've implemented for insurance agents that resulted in increased brand awareness and lead generation?

Megan: Absolutely! For instance, we created an "emergency preparedness checklist" for a client, discussing different aspects each week. We encouraged people to get the checklist, leading to valuable conversations and a growing email list. Measuring success involved tracking the number of conversations and email sign-ups.

Q4: Building an engaged social media community is crucial, but it can be challenging for insurance agents. How do you nurture and cultivate a loyal following, and what tactics encourage audience interaction and engagement?

Megan: Engagement is key! I teach agents to actively engage with their followers, turning it into a two-way conversation. Sharing personal aspects like family and pets helps build authentic connections. Adding call-to-actions, stories, and slider stickers in posts spark conversations and make it feel like a friendly chat.

Q5: Compliance and regulations are essential for marketing insurance services on social media. How do you ensure content complies with industry regulations while remaining engaging to the target audience?

Megan: I'm very cautious about content in the Collective, making sure it's informative yet simple, without crossing compliance lines. It's crucial to maintain a balance between interesting content and safety within industry regulations.

In a world where social media is a powerful tool for building relationships and reaching new clients, Megan Thomas' insights offer a wealth of knowledge for insurance agents looking to thrive in the digital age. Emphasizing engagement, authenticity, and compliance, Megan's expertise enables insurance professionals to navigate the digital landscape with confidence, building a loyal following and empowering their presence online.

Thriving in the Insurance Industry

Finding my calling: Thriving in the Insurance Industry

After a decade in the stock industry, navigating the challenging waters of the 2007 recession prompted me to seek new horizons in a thriving field. Little did I know that my journey would lead me to a fulfilling career in the insurance industry, where I discovered my true passion. Stepping into the world of insurance, I found myself drawn to selling life insurance, but it didn't end there. My path soon diverged into assisting small groups with their health and benefits, a role that has brought me immense joy and purpose.

As a benefit consultant, I quickly recognized the significant need for professionals who can simplify the complexities of health insurance for small group employers. They sought assurance, clarity, and a partner who could communicate insurance concepts in a language they and their staff could understand.

Being entrusted with such a crucial responsibility has been both humbling and empowering. My role allows me to provide invaluable support to my clients, bridging the gap between their needs and the intricacies of health insurance The most rewarding aspect of my job is the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with my clients, learning about their unique needs, their staff, and their businesses.

22 | INSURANCE BOSSBABES MAGAZINE
Joy Slack, Licensed Broker

Every consultation becomes an engaging collaboration I encourage my clients to take the lead, allowing them to express their concerns and desires openly. I listen attentively, understanding that they know their employees' needs best. In turn, I bring my expertise to the table, ensuring they receive the best possible advice to make informed decisions that benefit everyone involved.

Seeing my clients leave our meetings with a sense of relief, knowing they've made sound choices for their employees, is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that I have played a role in securing their well-being is the ultimate fulfillment. The insurance industry has given me a platform to make a meaningful impact on people's lives, and I am deeply grateful for this opportunity. As an Insurance BossBabe, I'm excited to continue growing and learning in this dynamic field, and I look forward to more rewarding experiences that lie ahead.

The Changing Landscape of Voluntary Benefit Insurance Careers:

An Interview with a Seasoned Recruiter

Interviewee: June Hershey

IBB Magazine: Interesting developments indeed! Have you noticed any differences in the demographic makeup of candidates recently?

Recruiter: Yes, there has been a shift in the demographic of candidates While I used to interview a significant number of millennials in the past, I've seen a recent uptick in more mature members of the community seeking new career opportunities. Additionally, candidate priorities have evolved. Stability has become a top priority for many applicants, likely due to the impact of Covid-related layoffs in various industries. People now seek longevity with a company rather than just work/life balance

IBB Magazine: It's fascinating to see how the priorities have shifted Can you share some insights into the dealbreakers candidates now have?

Recruiter: Certainly! In the past, working strictly on commission was a common dealbreaker for candidates. However, in recent times, candidates are looking for something more - a great work culture or a place that feels like family This shows a desire for a positive and supportive work environment

IBB Magazine: Thank you for sharing those observations Lastly, what do you envision for the future of the voluntary insurance industry job market?

Recruiter: The future looks bright for the voluntary insurance industry. It's clear that this sector is gaining popularity as a means to provide accessible and affordable workplace benefits for a large portion of the US workforce The exact trends may be difficult to predict, but one thing is certain - the industry isn't going anywhere.

Thank you for your valuable insights! Your observations offer valuable perspectives on the evolving job market in the voluntary insurance sector

As the voluntary insurance industry continues to evolve, it's exciting to witness the increasing interest from professionals in various industries. With changing demographics and shifting priorities, this sector is undoubtedly becoming a sought-after career path for many, with the potential to bring stability and positive work experiences to those seeking new opportunities.

25 | INSURANCE BOSSBABES MAGAZINE

IBB Magazine: Thank you for joining us today! Could you tell our readers a bit about yourself and your background in the voluntary insurance industry?

Recruiter: Absolutely! I've been deeply involved in the voluntary or supplemental insurance field for nearly 12 years, primarily in a sales leadership role for over 10 of those years. In recent times, my focus has shifted to full-time recruiting, sourcing top talent for the industry

IBB Magazine: Fascinating journey! How has the job market evolved in the voluntary insurance industry since the beginning of the year?

Recruiter: I've noticed a significant shift in the job market this year. Previously, candidate sourcing was primarily limited to referrals from friends, team members, and acquaintances. However, as I transitioned into full-time recruiting, I observed a marked increase in the number of individuals exploring opportunities within this sector, especially those coming from the housing industry, including realtors, mortgage loan professionals, and even contractors.

IBB Magazine: That's quite a notable change! Are there any other trends you've observed in the job market?

Recruiter: Yes, absolutely. It seems that individuals from the automotive industry, particularly car sales, are also expressing interest in the voluntary insurance sector. Another trend is the increased commitment from candidates during the interview process. More applicants are showing up for interviews, indicating a higher level of engagement and dedication.
