This is a building of emptiness. It should be viewed as a retreat and spiritual refuge, which offers a space for its residents to escape from all the technology and social network that has occupied people’s mind and daily life. The concrete wall isolates one from the street’s exterior space, Student Unit

Various Moving Exhibition Infrastructure

Exterior Render The project is a moving exhibition place for miniature arts. It promotes the idea that everything is able to be minimized, including energy The infrastructure acts as an accordion-folding paper that is able to be either stretched out, or folded together. Its structure is designed to allow for easy transportation and multiple. The accordion-folding strategy allows it to accommodate different site availabilities.

HOUTAN PARK Location Building Type

19

Shanghai, China Expo Park/ Public Green Space

Suzhou style decorative painting was often regarded as a time consuming and expensive technique, as gold was used for some parts of the drawing. The colors were used to depict tier upon tier in order to manifest the palatial manner of the Royals. Just like how this type of drawing mainly served for the Royals, the Houtan Park is also a tool or propaganda used by the government through the opportunity of Shanghai 2010 Expo. In the drawing, the men at the bottom are still wearing face masks, the water pump is still pumping polluted water into the river, and the fishing men on the boat is holding a dead fish in his hand. Holding the same purpose of this drawing, the Houtan Park creates a faรงade or a beautiful illusion that covers up the real problem---- that the Huangpu River is still dirty, and barely anyone goes to the park after the Expo. 20
