Artist Profile： The human agency and intentionality in consuming nature is pivotal in Tan Yu Kai's works. He keenly consumes the impressions of fleeting light and the affective presence of natural spaces. Through his depiction of unrealistically still and long moments, he explores the emotive evocation of the formlessness of nature – a intangible memories of nature created by our modernly mediated consumption of nature. By visibilising the oft’ unnoticed and forgotten facets of the natural world, his works explore our relationship with the fragile beauty of nature in the age of humans. Born and raised in Penang, Malaysia, Tan was condemned by many as artistically inept throughout his childhood. He was trained for four years in traditional Chinese painting by age 15, and has since dabbled in a myriad of media and styles. Lefty Julian is a graphic novelist who also works as the editor-in-chief for Shanghai's Left Pocket Creatives. His comics IP includes "Major Zombie" and "Jimi Germ". Through his depiction of unrealistically still and long moments, he explores the emotive evocation of the formlessness of nature – a intangible memories of nature created by our modernly mediated consumption of nature. By visibilising the oft’ unnoticed and forgotten facets of the natural world, his works explore our relationship with the fragile beauty of nature in the age of humans. Born and raised in Penang, Malaysia, Tan was condemned by many as artistically inept throughout his childhood. He was trained for four years in traditional Chinese painting by age 15, and has since dabbled in a myriad of media and styles.
