Shocked by the announcement, the Hirata’s grown up children go to extraordinary, almost comical, lengths to save their beloved parents’ marriage. A whimsical drama and light-hearted comedy directed by former Yasuhiro Ozu protégé Yoji Yamada (The Hidden Blade, Tokyo Family).

The village celebrates Eikichi’s homecoming, but not long after, Osamu is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. The events that follow are a blend of hilarity and tragedy as father and son patch up old wounds through a shared love for music.
