JARED HAGEDORN
Jared Hagedorn I am an anticipated graduate in May from Kansas State University with a Master of Architecture. I am looking for a full time position to improve my architectural skills in hopes of becoming a licensed architect. I believe that architecture can be the link between technology and art. My hope is to join an architectural firm where I may contribute my design, research, and leadership abilities. Contact: 8075 Cottonwood Drive Sedalia, MO 65301 660.287.5218 hagedornjared@gmail.com

Project Description: Design+Make is a collaborative 5th year design build studio being taught by El Dorado Inc, a design build firm based in the Kansas City area. This year’s Design+Make studio was tasked with working for Hardesty Renaissance, a subsidiary company of Asian Americans for Equality out of New York City. The project was introduced to our class as a mobile office for their startup Kansas City venture. We investigated the problem as in groups of 2. As the semester moved on, the project parameters changed due to budgetary constraints and every session with the client brought new information. Defining a mobile office and what truly were the daily needs of Hardesty Renaissance became the primary challenge. Our interpretation of the program lead us to focusing on a highly mobile solution. Stemming from that idea we began designing mobile units that when brought into the space unfolded into desks, tables, and the other needs demanded by the program. Understanding the program, essential elements, flexibility, functionality, and mobility become driving forces of the design. Location: Kansas City, MO Completed: Fall 2013

Project Description: The Brazilian Consulate spurs from the construction document semester of our curriculum. Our professor introduced the project as a consulate in Chicago, but there were no site or country restrictions. The project asked us to provide the building with a large scale mixed use urban project. The Brazilian Consulate has a variety of uses such as art gallery spaces, a large theater space, and offices and apartments for the consulate general of Brazil. The consulate display levels of privacy progressing from bottom to top. For this reason, the galleries are located near the ground floor while the private offices are located near the top floors. Important spaces protrude out to create views over the Chicago river. The material uses try to display modern Brazilian architecture using wood and coarse concrete. Project Description: The Museum Sol LeWitt was a project based in New York. We completed this project after attending a study tour. The project began by studying the life and work of a deceased artist. The design was intended to emulate the artist and house their work. Sol LeWitt was an artist that helped to lead the conceptualism generation of art. LeWitt used simple geometric shapes to create works of art. I realized the project would need tall ceilings and lots of wall space for LeWitt’s large wall drawings and paintings. The other important element of the project’s interior is multi story spaces that integrate space for a tall LeWitt structures that are large scale projects of his. Location: Soho, New York, New York Completed: Spring 2012

Project Description: The Colorado Street house is a project that is intended to be a 2 bedroom residence for a single man and his son. The most important programmatic requirement was a large garage because the man is a car junkie. The massing wall acts the division between work and home. The kitchen area uses small windows to give visual access to the work garage. Many of the spatial properties were influenced from a case study that was performed prior to the project. The influences of Peter Bohlin’s house helped to create this house. This project was originally completed by hand during second year but redone on the computer later. Location: Colorado Street, Manhattan, KS Completed: Fall 2011

Project Description: 7540 Washington apartments is a project completed in the Design+Make studio. This was a team project working with ReStart Housing of Kansas City. The Design+Make studio was faced with the challenge of designing the interior furniture of the existing community room space at the northern half of the apartment complex. The problem to be addressed was creating a calming atmosphere that would become a home for the residents while still accommodating community events. The conceptual idea began as a singular unit unbroken as it progressed straight through the space. Upon further development, we began to think of the line bending through space. Along the line, the permutation responds to various programmatic needs. The line was deemed important to respond to whatever its function should be. Through this design solution, the perimeter is where the programmatic elements are located to allow for numerous activities in the center of the room. The design is meant to show consistency while still having a playful quality. The snaking line would be created using tube steel that is broken only when traveling through windows. Location: Waldo, Kansas City, MO Completed: Fall 2013
