Meetings in seaside resort What makes Sopot distinct among other localities is unique combination of the atmosphere of a luxurious resort, a town beloved by artists and a modern center of business meetings. In Spa House located in the centre of Sopot there is a Conference Centre with an area of 2 000 sq m (including the foyer) which can accommodate up to 650 people in theater style. Sheraton Hotel, Conference Center & Spa has a total of 10 meeting rooms. The Centre has already held meetings of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Zapatero, the presidents of the Visegrad Group countries and ministers of foreign affairs under Eastern Partnership. ERGO ARENA is designed not only to the organization of major sporting and cultural events, but also conferences, fairs and exhibitions. For this purpose, three basic variants of the audience location has been designed in the facility, regarding the possibility of plenary proceedings (4 250 seats at the boxed scene, 4 442 at the panoramic scene, 1 162 at the scripted scene). During the Polish presidency of the EU Council in July 2011, in the Congress Centre was held a conference attended by 13 ministers from all over the EU, debating on such issues as health, social policy, defense, transportation and foreign affairs. Sopot, along with Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan and Wroclaw was chosen the host city for the Polish presidency in the EU. In 2011 Sopot co-organized the European Forum for New Ideas which was held under the official honorary patronage by Bronisław Komorowski, President of the Republic of Poland, Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament, and Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council. For three days Sopot hosted nearly 1,000 people from several countries of the world, eminent experts, Nobel Prize winners, scientists, business and political leaders. Several national and low-cost carriers at the moment are offering regular air links with 35 cities in European Union including international hub airports: Frankfurt, Copenhagen and Munich (flight information: www. airport.gdansk.pl). Airport is located 10 km from the center of Sopot.

At present construction of a new passenger terminal T2, a ramp and a taxiway for airplanes is happening, which will enable the Airport to serve ultimately 5 million passengers. Due to investments in the Airport, the transport availability of Sopot in ational and international channels is obviously increasing.

Also, in order to diversify sea transport in summer seasons, a water bus was introduced, that connects the cities of Gdansk, Gdynia, Hel and Sopot in that part of the year.

There are four important national roads near the city (no. 1, 5, 6 and 7), leading to regions of oland in the west, south and east. Sopot and the whole Gdansk Metropolis gained access to A-1 motorway which is a part of a European transport corridor leading from Scandinavia to Mediterranean countries. In recent years a lot of attention has been given to the improvement of the integrity of inner communication in the borders of the Metropolis, the introduction of a combined metropolis ticket serves this purpose.

Sea transport availability Sopot, due to its central localisation, is making use of possibilities created by having a direct access to intersecting here important transport and commercial routes leading from Western and Northern Europe to Poland, and beyond, to Middle-Eastern and Eastern Europe. Parking spaces In the area of Sopot there are 1 994 parking places under the authority of the city, including 450 in the city’s very centre. Apart from that 200 places are located near the facilities of Gdansk University. The number of parking places is growing constantly, mainly due to cubic investments, like Ergo Arena, Sopot New Centre or the upcoming development of areas near railway station. Hotels and conference venues have their own parking lots.

Fast communication with the word is provided by the nearby international Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport, which served in the year 2010 over 2.2 million passengers (achieving almost a 17 percent raise compared to the year 2009). A rapid increase of the number of passenger transport is the result of Poland joining the European Union and the liberalisation of air traffic regulations.

Sopot is a real centre of culture – both the high and the popular one. The oldest and still the most famous stage hosting such events in Sopot is the Forest Opera. It was first built in 1909 and from the very beginning was connected with concerts of classical music. Nowadays, the Forest Opera is mainly associated with Sopot Festival organized since 1961. Within its framework, Sopot was the place, where such great stars performed like: Garou, Whitney Houston, Bryan Adams, Eurythmics, Lionel Richie, Norah Jones or Vaya con Dios. The Forest Opera is also a enue for festivals such as TOPtrendy, the Opera Festival and concerts of Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra.

Unique microclimatic conditions, affluence in health waters, sandy beaches spreading across the whole shore of Sopot and diversified proposals of cultural and sport events cause the city to be more interesting with respect to tourism and every year it draws around 2 million visitors, both from the rest of the country and abroad.

The most recent building, the ERGO ARENASports &Entertainment Hall opened in 2010, with up to 13 thousand places, gives new quality and new prospects for Sopot. It has already staged such stars as Lady Gaga, Chris Botti, Sting and numerous sports events, for example the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League Final Round. Thanks to the rich sports infrastructure, Sopot was and still is a place of many significant competitions – starting with the sailing and windsurfing international regattas, through tennis tournaments, ending with the biggest athletic meetings. The Athletics Janusz Sidło Grand Prix of Sopot has always gathered many excellent European sportsmen on the Sopot stadium, and the windsurfing regattas or Toyota Sopot Match Racing attracted to Sopot the world leading yachtsmen. The Sopot Hippodrome hosts many prestigious horse riding events: the most important Official International Horse Jumping Competition CSIO. Sopot become the headquarters of UEFA Family during Euro 2012 in the Tri-City area. Sopot will also host the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships.

Numerous theatrical events attract people to Sopot, with performances on a Small Audience Stage of “Wybrzeże Theatre” in Gdansk, and Theatre on the Beach, where it is possible to see performances of Sopot Stage ‚Off de BICZ’, Agnieszka Osiecka Atelier Theatre as well as the Theatre Festival of Polish Radio and Television ‘Two Theatres’. In July and August people may watch films on the pier - the night shows of films on the best venue of such type in Poland - the open air Orange Summer Cinema.

Ergo Arena is the venue offering the potential for organising concerts by world fame stars, matches of the European and World status in nearly all indoor sports disciplines, congresses for up to 15 thousand participants, staff training, or closed business meetings. Aquapark Sopot

The Aquapark Sopot centre offers comprehensive recreation services, primarily water leisure. The complex of indoor and outdoor recreational pools can serve 950 people (in the summer) or 800 people (out of the season) at a time. The visitors to the Aquapark can also avail themselves to two snack bars next to the pools, the Sauna World (eight saunas for 90 people), a bowling alley with its own bar, and the Pick&Roll restaurant club with a complex of canopied summer outdoor terraces. The six-lane bowling alley is a good place for incentive events. The facility will accommodate 48 players and ca. 30 accompanying spectators.

Molo is the symbol of the resort, one of the most popular recreation and entertainment facilities in Poland. This is a perfect place (both the famous longest wooden pier in Europe - 511,5 m and the land part) for events accompanying a conference held in Sopot and for the attractins in the unique scenery of the Baltic Sea in the form of: banquet, gala, cocktail or dinner; concert, entertainment, happening or exhibition; promotion of brands and products of articipants and sponsors of the conference. Promarina Sopot

The list of prime places of interest in Sopot includes the newly built Yacht Marina opened in the summer of 2011. 10260 m2 in area, it is arranged at the tip of the Sopot pier, made up of three basins separated with floating piers and capable of taking in 103 yachts. The marina is monitored. The dock master’s office at the pier head offers comprehensive sanitary facilities to the sailors. The Forest Stadium, owned by the Sopot Athletics Club, is an available option when organising a conference, training, incentive meeting for maximum 5000 people, which the sports field can accommodate, jubilee events, or presentations. The Sopot Hippodrome

The Sopot Hippodrome is a stunning site, the venue of horse races and prestigious horseshows, horse-riding school, as well as concerts, exhibitions, shows, etc. At the moment, the facility is undergoing upgrading under the project of „Revitalisation of the Historic Hippodrome Complex in Sopot, Including Revamp and Extension”. By the end of 2012 the site will gain e.g.: a new building with a conference hall sized 132 m2 for 100 people, optionally divided into smaller spaces, an office building, service outlets, accommodation and catering facilities (the restaurant 341 m2 in area will serve ca. 125 people at any time, its windows opening onto the track and the competitions and races held there). Centennial Hall Sopot

The hall was erected in the first year of the twenty-first century, in the very heart of the spa and since then has become the city’s sports and recreation hallmark. Many sports events have already been held here (to name e.g. the Euroleague and league meetings in basketball, international volleyball matches, the tennis Davis Cup, boxing nights, etc...). These were interspersed with artistic events, conferences, and trade fairs. The hall has a cloakroom for the guests, a ramp enabling the disabled to negotiate their way up to the ground floor, a large lounge fitted with a bar on the first floor, a gym, changing rooms and showers, plus professional sports gear mainly for the participants in team games.

The Sopot Sailing Club

Our centre is located in the Sopot seashore area, just 10 m off the beach. We have guest rooms and two or three-room ateliers. Each room is fitted with a TV set and an Internet terminal. There are two conference rooms on site, each accommodating 30 people and transformable into a single hall, and an intimate fireplace room seating 25. The compound includes the „Sopocka Mesa” restaurant for 80 diners. We also offer training in sailing and windsurfing. The WOPR Water Rescue Team have their Centre on the estate. Arranged on the stronghold site is an archaeological open-air museum featuring log-construction country houses. The site is supplemented with an educational exhibition pavilion with a multifunctional room for maximum 50 people. We organise feasts, jubilee celebrations, and incentive events. Out in the natural setting, in the aura of an early medieval stronghold the guests indulge in various games, watch an arms parade or warrior skirmishes, dance performances, or enjoy a concert of early music. The programme can be enriched to include e.g. dressing up the participants in medieval gowns, or other elements.

The Museum of Sopot

The Museum of Sopot is but ten-or-so metres from the beach. It occupies an authentic villa erected in 1903 by Ernst A. Claaszen, a merchant of Gdańsk. The portly rooms on the ground floor house the permanent exhibition of historic interiors. The first floor is dedicated to temporary displays. The museum stands in an extensive garden available for arranging the tables, putting up the canopies, and holding an open-air meeting, concert, incentive meeting, etc. We can also organise indoor conferences. There is the „Rucola” restaurant in the building.

The Classicist manor of the Sierakowski family is, alongside the Spanish Manor, the oldest specimen of the Sopot architecture. The surviving authentic details include e.g.: tiled stoves dating back to the end of the 18th century and several decorative double-leaf doors. Since 1974, the manor has housed the Friends of Sopot Society. The historic building serves e.g. exhibitions, concerts, festivals, conferences, and author meetings. The „Young Byron” cafe is run on the ground floor.

The Forest Opera, or an amphitheatre tucked in a wooded valley, its history going back to 1909, is acclaimed one of the most beautiful and exquisite in terms of acoustics sites of the kind in Europe. The amphitheatre has since 2009 been undergoing a thorough revamp. The historic facility will be given an ultra modern form. There will be 5043 seats in the audience, however with the first sectors folded (so as to make room for standing viewers) the capacity can go up to 6000 people. The stage has been supplemented with modern cloakrooms. One of the rooms back stage will serve as a conference room equipped with a screen and multimedia projector. The theatre is scheduled to open in the spring/summer of 2012. A coach parking is 300 metres away.

The Chamber Scene of the Wybrzeże Theatre has been moved to new premises, which upgraded it to one of the most modern theatrical stages in the country. The prestigious Scene is located in the heart of Sopot, at midpoint of the main street, Bohaterów Monte Cassino. The air-conditioned audience can seat 250 people. The theatre crew provides professional technical service, erection of the setting, the lighting and sound amplification, the artistic component of the conference agenda, performances of the current season, and professional audience service (ushers, cloakroom staff). The theatre foyer can accommodate a banquet.

The Concert Hall of the Polish Chamber

The hall is located on the estate of the Forest Opera, at the foot of a wooded escarpment. The compound comprises an air-conditioned hall for 250 people, two smaller rooms for an audience of 30 each, office space, and an accommodation wing. The Concert Hall of the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra is also an excellent venue for conference meetings, corporate events, shows, banquets, and balls. State Gallery of Art

The State Gallery of Art (PGS) is an institution run by the local authorities and financed from the Sopot municipal budget. With the Sopot centre redevelopment project completed, the gallery has been moved to the new Spa House at 2 Spa Square. Having the floor area of 1,000 m2 at its disposal, PGS used to stage about twenty-five exhibitions of modern and traditional art a year, providing an overview of various artistic phenomena. The Gallery has also accumulated its own collection of modern art, mostly works by authors of the Gdańsk area, collected for over forty years.
