From 3 to 5 April, 2023, the Albanian capital hosted the International Tourism Forum “The Future of Environmental Sustainable Tourism in Albania (FESTA), an event organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment of the Republic of Albania in collaboration with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) under the special care of the Prime Minister of Albania, Mr. Edi Rama, and Secretary – General of the UNWTO, Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili. The three-day forum brought together more than 300 representatives from 38 countries, a broad discussion platform of policymakers, entrepreneurs, tour operators and all the contributors to the important hospitality and leisure industry.

After many months of reconstruction works, funded by a collaboration of AlbanianAmerican Development Foundation with the Municipality of Tirana and the Government of Albania, the Pyramid of Tirana was inaugurated on an amazing evening on 11th of May.
The atmosphere of the launch was electrifying. The renovated Pyramid shone brightly in the city skyline with the help of the 3D projections making the landmark absolutely stunning. This was coupled with the truly inspiring speeches from the Prime Minister, Mr. Edi Rama, Ministers, the Mayor of Tirana, Mr. Erion Veliaj, and the Co-CEO of the AADF, Mr. Aleksandër Sarapuli about the newest hub for culture, innovation, and community in Tirana.
Among others, the Prime Minister Rama stressed that “the Reborn Pyramid will become the heart of new Albania of Innovation and the biggest hub in the region for the youngsters who are dedicated to digital technology.” Also, he said that besides being a space for technology and information, the Pyramid will be a station of tourism in Tirana where all the visitors are welcomed to enjoy it.
The iconic building of Tirana will be the new home of TUMO Tirana, an afterschool program at the intersection of technology and design, which offers for 12- to 18-year-olds in new learning targets such as animation, graphics design, robotics, music, filmmaking, game development, programming, and 3D modeling. The Pyramid will be providing the possibility to host up to 4.000 kids each week attending TUMO courses.
The design project by world-renowned Dutch architecture MVRDV aims to transform the former mausoleum of Albania’s communist dictator into a regional technology and education hub, that represents the openness and the opportunities that were once denied to the Albanian people.
