Hello Camp Olympia Family, I hope this letter find you and yours doing wonderfully. The team here at Camp is doing great and hard at work prepping for the 2023 summer. Every summer, Camp Olympia chooses a different theme to define our summer. The theme we have chosen for our 56th summer is “Find Me Here”! I love this theme on several different levels. As someone who has spent almost their entire adult life inside these gates, I have been easy to find here! But, I know I am the person I am today because I was found here. “Find Me Here” can take on many meanings for many different people. Here is just a short list...
• Finding yourself-personal growth in body, mind, and spirit!
• Find yourself at your favorite place- The Point, Lil’ Pines, or The Ropes Course
• Find yourself in an environment you didn’t know that you loved
• Find yourself with your friends - new and old!
• Find yourself with your camp family!
• Get your mail here
All of these meanings resonate with me, and I hope some of them resonate with you too! We cannot wait to find you here at the O’Mazing grounds here at camp! Be Safe, Be Happy, and Be Here this summer at Camp Olympia.

CASPER
Casper won the jackpot and still gets to come to camp everyday! Our very own Assistant Director of Outdoor Education, Jordan Jefferys, adopted Casper. They love going to The Point together, playing fetch with a stick, and snuggling on the couch! Casper has turned into quite the handsome young man with a big smile to match!
JAGGER
Jagger came to see us at our Fall Y’all Fest in November! He has gotten SO big and is so handsome with his big guy haircut! He has an affinity for socks and has allegedly eaten 6!

Andre Rivas Fernandez just finished his 5th summer at Camp Olympia! He did such an amazing job as the J-Boys Assistant Director, we just couldn’t let him go! Andre is from Puebla, Mexico and is currently attending Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla studying Business Administration & Language.
Welcome to the year-round team, Andre!
Caitlin Tucker grew up in Brownwood, Texas and is a former camper and counselor at Olympia! Next summer will be her 12th at camp. This past summer, Caitlin was a boat driver and a rock star J-Girls counselor! She is currently attending Tarleton State University, where she is an Elementary Education major.
We are so excited for another Camptastic year with you!
Campbell Brantley is another former camper and counselor from San Antonio, Texas! Campbell has spent the last 14 summers with us at Olympia and served as the O-Mazing Assistant Director for the Senior I Men for the 2022 summer. Plus, Campbell led our Culinary Arts Program last summer!
Thank you for all you do! This year is going to be so much fun!
COUNSELOR CORNER
Eli King is working at Walt Disney World in Florida while enrolled in the Disney College Program! He will spend the next few months working for The Mouse. Be sure to ask Eli about his adventures when you see him this summer!
Phoebe Hamilton has been busy completing her Methods Thesis and preparing for competition season for cheer! Phoebe will lead her team in Disney World this month competing at UCA College Nationals!
Scarlett McDowell has had quite an extensive travel agenda taking her to Florida, Hawaii, and Colorado for vacation! Talk about frequent flyer miles!
Cecilia Villarreal started her own small business, Soul Food Cookies! This company provides guiltless alternatives to your favorite desserts, like low sugar, low calorie, dairy-free oatmeal cookies and sugar free matcha pound cake!
Daniel Hogan proposed to his girlfriend, Cassie! They have been dating for three and a half years, and we are so excited for them!
FULL-TIME SPOTLIGHT
SHAY ROWE
Shay Rowe joined the Camp Olympia family this year as an Assistant Director! Shay’s Camp Olympia knowledge dates back to 2004 when she completed her first summer as a camper! After that, she did CLP, was an O’Crew member, and served as a counselor! In 2018, Shay graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. While in school, she enjoyed her time as a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and a Camp Olympia Counselor during the summers! After graduation, Shay went on to be a 6th grade History teacher for 2 years and was the sponsor for the Volleyball Club! Shay will be taking our nightly programs to the next level! Plus, she will lead our photography team, assist with marketing efforts and coordinate our Mother/Daughter and Mom/Son weekends. Shay is thrilled to hit the ground running and to work in tandem with the rest of our full-time staff to bring summer 2023 to you!
JORDAN JEFFERYS
Jordan Jefferys is back on our year-round staff and has transitioned over to our Outdoor Education Program! Jordan Jefferys is an alumna of Stephen F. Austin State University, where she received her undergrad and graduate degrees in Finance and Business. She was involved in many different organizations but found her passion for teaching while tutoring at the Academic Assistance Resource Center. Here, she honed her skills and realized that she could make an impact in the education field. Jordan has been part of Camp Olympia family for the majority of her life, including time spent as a camper, counselor, and member of the full-time staff. In the Summer of 2022, Jordan joined the Outdoor Education Center where she made an immediate impact organizing schedules, building relationships with schools, handling finances, leading classes, and training staff members. Jordan hopes to use her skills to continue growing the program to give more students the opportunity to have life-changing experiences. Outside of work, Jordan serves as a Board Member for the Mr. & Mrs. Nelson Rusche Foundation and a Trustee of the SFASU Foundation. During her free time, Jordan loves anything water related and spending with her dog, Casper.
CAMP LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
A WORD FROM OUR CLP DIRECTOR, NICK DECKERT
Hello from Camp O!
I am looking forward to another O-Mazing summer for our CLP campers! For those who don’t know, our Camp Leadership Program is offered during Terms 2 & 3 for our sixteen year old campers. The unique aspect of the CLP Program is that it includes a week-long Colorado adventure where the campers get to experience: rock-climbing, team ropes course initiatives, whitewater rafting, and a three-day backpacking trip that includes peaking a 13,000 ft mountain! While here at camp, the program focuses on building leaders, fostering teamwork, and improving self-confidence in our campers. They will also be able to complete a lifeguard certification and first-aid training!
I have seen first-hand how much campers can change during this three-week program. They are led by an amazing group of young adults, most of whom are former Olympia counselors. These leaders foster genuine relationships and serve as mentors everyday for these CLP campers. We encourage CLP’ers to step out of their comfort zone. One of my favorite things to witness in my time as CLP Director is when campers accomplish something they never thought they could! I am excited for campers to experience something so special that truly is a once-in-a-lifetime experience! If you have interest or questions about the CLP, please contact me at camp.

Our TEKS-aligned curriculum has been used to start and enhance outdoor education centers around the state and even the country! We invite students to create meaning from their experience without lecturing or sitting still. Students will get dirty, they will explore, and they will find answers to their questions. Our curriculum is written for our facility to bring the surrounding area to life!
