01 Air pollution adapting socio
cultural centre Delhi Thesis Project
New Delhi, is one of the most polluted cities of the world. As a result of the increased emission of carbon monoxide and such dangerous gases through various causes the amount of particulate matter increased in the atmosphere. This leads to a hazardous life of people living there. As cities are flooded with architectural structures a solution through the architecture for the air pollution can bring a wide impact. Dwarka is a sector situated to the south west of Delhi and is one of the town with hazardous air quality. The site is proposed with a socio-cultural center as per the Delhi Development Authority Master plan, choosing this as the project to bring the solution. Design Aproach An exterior skin for the building is designed as a solution to adapt the building to the exterior air condition. Through phytoremediation and Air washer technique incorporating to the building skin acts itself as a double layer ďŹ ltration element. Socio cultural center is designed as two blocks which is placed in the site according to the wind flow, sunpath, circulations and space zoning.

Vertical fins Acting both as a functional element and aesthetics. It acts as a Shading device and wind catcher. The material is terracotta
Planters Planters are planted with golden pathos creepers. reduce toxins such as formaldehyde, toluene, benzene, carbon monoxide, and xylene. Also, rhizome absorption take place th through perforated front side.
Air washer It sprays water as smaller droplets. This droplets adsorbs mainly PM2.5 - PM10 particles and reduces the contamination. Additionally it humidifies air.
Fabric Fabric filters heavy particle size matters.
Louvres Louvres direct the cool humidified and less contaminated air into the living space.

Typical building section Incooperating solar chimney accelerates passive ventilation through out the building.The water boundry recycles the water sprayed inside the skin.
Water boundry A water body offsets the building blocks throughout. It collects the water from the skin and recycles. During winter and monsoon, it will be dried out for preventing air to cool when going inside. The air washer unit has to stop during winter and monsoon. The phytoremediation will take inactive during those season.

Solar chimney Solar chimneys accelerate stack effect and pulls the hot air out. The glazed surface above heats up the black surface inside the chimney creating a pressure difference. Solar chimneys are placed through the center of building.
Design evolution and massing
1.Placing Volume The volumes are sumed up and arranged in the site in a cuboidal form. Takes minimal footprint and provides large public zone.
2. Pushing away from entry The volumes are pushed away from the entry dividing the public zone into two.
3.Bending for maximum view The volumes are bent towards the aproach -for better view from the road.
4. Creating a gap for access The volumes are broken into two at the middle connecting the public zones
5. Moving up and down for maximum internal air flow. Increasing the gap favours great air flow to the site and surfaces of the building.
6. Adapting to the sun form is twisted to create slanding facade on the sun facing sides.
The mass evolved is then Applied with pollutant absorbing skin and passive ventilation techniques also with landscapes refreshing the site.

Puzhayorathil House Poonoor Private Project
The project is developed on a 15 cent site. Design was constrained to minimum area and more requirements. Designing a contemporary minimal house with efďŹ cient functional spaces was the basic idea. A complete design with visualization and supervision has been done. Total area is 2700sqft.
Residence for Masru Nanminda Private Project
An elevation for the preplanned house was designed. A mix of contemporary flat and sloped roof style has been tried to develop. Creating a feel of recessed wall supported roof with wall washing light on the Shera board cladding will enrich the view. Complete elevation design and visualization has been done.

Designing a contemporary house with interesting special feature evolves this project. Bay windows are provided increasing the bedroom special quality and functionality. Complete design and visualization has been done. Total area is 3000sqft.
Shameem’s Residence Thamarassery Private Project
An elevation for the preplanned house was designed. Contemporary flat roofed with minimal construction cost design was the need for the client which is completely tried to keep in design. Complete elevation design and visualization has been done.

Skyway Travels Poonoor Private Project / Interior Design
With minimalism as concept the interior works efďŹ ciently which spreads in a 3x7 room space. Space is utilized to include an reception, ofďŹ ce space and a storage-cum utility space.

Businessman's Residence Kuttipuram Academic Project / Semester 3
The combination of stone and green plants with better day lighting and air vents are incorporated for the stressed buissnessman to get relaxed. Operable vertical louvres intakes fresh air all the time. The inner semi open courtyard accelerates stack effect and makes the interior cool and fresh.

Academic Project / Semester 9 The revetalisaion of calicut railway station was the UD project done on the 9th semester and was a group work. The groups were devided by giving defferent zones of calicut for each to study and
develope designs. We got the north western part of railway station, the Vallyangadi, and proposed the shown designs through defferent studies.
Considering 6 weak zones of Vallyangadi and proposed designs which could connect it back to its historic prosperous times.

1.Bicycle/Bike parking A wide space from the transit hub has bee seperated as bicycle parking and public entry.
2.Retained Existing Tree The built form engulfs a banyan tree on site thereby creating a meetup space for the public.
3.Extending the Avenue The path extending from Vytila town to the bus station is extended all the way to the Terminal.
4.Rooftop Restaurants The terrace can be used as a food court accessible to the general public.
5.Complementary Roof Design A Roof design that blends well with the existing bus terminal . It can stand out as a landmark and enables commuters to direct themselves to the station from far.
