John Maeda “What’s next for technology and design?

Childhood Born in Seattle Washington in 1966. His father owed a tofu company that he worked in as a child.He loved going to school,While he was in school he was gifted at art and math. His father was very good at creating inventions. His mother was a good designer.

College While at MIT John had a teacher named Muriel cooper who he looked up too. She conveinced him to follow his dreams of doing art so he decided to finish is masters at MIT and head to art school. While trying to decide to go to an art school. He fell in love with Paul Rands work which pushed him to make his decision.

While during his time in art school he had another mentor that he admired Mr. Inami Naomi he was an digital media producer in tokyo. He was the first person to take him in as a digital media artist. Sadly he passed from a brain aneurysm. “How fragile is this thing we’re wearing, this body and mind we’re wearing, and so I thought, How do you go for it more? How do you take that time you have left and go after it?”

John became the president of RISD in 2008 and used his position to help push the schools reputation as well as push the STEAM movement in the education system. He stayed in that position for 5 years and later moved on to become the first designer at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers
