Virgina Tech - Class of May 2021
Welcome! This portfolio is a collection of my work that best shows the creativity and exploratory nature I apply to all my projects. Creating interesting and unique concepts is one of my favorite parts about interior design and putting them into motion dimensionally throughout a space is a long, thoughtful, and artful process that I take great care in doing. As of recently I became a LEED Green Associate so my next goal through my projects is figuring out ways to integrate sustainable and environmentally friendly building practices in my work. I not only want to design for style but as well as for the environment. There is a balance between being able to be as connected as possible through technology and being able to get away from all the various screens we own nowadays. In my designs I strive to create a space that has all the connectivity a person could need but also keep in mind that not all areas have to be littered with technology and gadgets. Sometimes, a quiet area with a nice view to the outside and acoustic barriers is a welcome reprieve from the hustle and bustle of day to day. When I first started at Virginia Tech in the Interior Design program, I did not understand some of the abstract projects they were asking us to do. Now, as I am approaching graduation, I am so thankful for all the crazy, weird, or even mind-boggling creations we were tasked with making. Thinking abstractly has become a huge tool I have had at my disposal to deal with working past problems and scenarios that were out of my control and has also helped aid me in stepping away from basic concepts and diving deeper into the space and what I am trying to convey and accomplish. I have included some hand drawings in marker from a Design Communication class. We are undeniably in the digital age but there is an importance in being able to hand draw spaces, see colors, materials, and shading and be able to translate that clearly on a piece of paper by hand. These works are some of my proudest accomplishments because of the noticeable progress throughout the semester. Being able to accurately draw perspectives and materiality are key ingredients to a comprehensive designer. I am focusing on healthcare design for my final senior thesis and am focusing on how our surrounding environment can impact an occupant’s emotions, comfort level, and health. I take the same perspective in the projects featured in my portfolio, paying special attention to areas that I perceive as opportunities for relief, quiet, interaction, or focus. I firmly believe that a successful space in one that suits the needs of the occupants as well as makes them want to stay and enjoy their surroundings. I hope you find passion in my portfolio, creativity in my concepts, and can get insight on how I think and design.
Enjoy! Jasmine Snyder

TABLE OF CO N T ENTS
Mod Music Co. Luxury Skybox Fall, 4th Year The “Adult Contemporary” music genre is a subset of pop music. What defines Adult Contemporary music is its use of pacing throughout the music and the idea of each song telling a story, or a ballad. Pace is a flow of events in which the quality of growth is measured, it is an abstract feeling and can be described as a sense that something is starting.

PARTI DIAGRAM
The parti diagram is meant to emulate the idea of something building up, much like the pace of a song or a climax of a story. Similar to Tetris pieces, the two shapes stack up to build something while also creating a completely new shape. This is how the space should feel as well that it is building and growing as one moves throughout the space. The interlocking shapes that represent floor one and two are unique while also being cohesive as one whole design. This design demonstrates pace through its carefully selected artwork which represents movement. A splitcomplementary color scheme provides an exciting color palette, as well as interesting geometric furniture, lighting choices, and pops of bold color to create Avant Garde styled areas. The schematic layout of the space reflects a sense of unity as well as areas of Avant Garde design layouts. This is achieved by having a sense of direction following the parti diagram but also including areas of unique design choices within each space. The most important, or active use areas of the space, will be at the end of paths of travel so the user has a sense of moving towards an excitement, ideally building up a feeling of something beginning within them.

CUSTOM BOOKSHELF Inspired by Martins Afonso's recent modern interior house renovation, this bookshelf emulates the idea of flow and pacing through the space while using the repeating "U" formation that the second floor parti takes on. It is a wood floating shelf plated in bronze to match the finishes of other features in the space. It is another opportunity for the users of the space to personalize it to their brand and identity. NEXT Office Space- Steelcase Fall, 4th Year Mindfulness, the idea of breathing and focus, is promoted by the surroundings of nature, it also is a key practice in a space that promotes wellness. Each space feels centered and responds to a certain aspect of mindfulness. The inner space and the perimeter space feel like a cohesive unit that work together in creating an optimal space for learning and growing.

ATLANTA MINDF U L F MAP OREST NEXT PROJECT
Atlanta, GA, is known as a “city inside a forest”. Surrounded by beautiful trees, the area’s famous “inside the perimeter, outside the perimeter” mapping resembles the same structure as the interior of a tree trunk. Viewing the city as a geometric form surrounded by an organic form, being the forest, began to shape the space. Materials and finishes are carefully selected for each space to support the atmosphere each area is creating. Lighting in the focused and interactive spaces use task light as well as natural light to provide an adequate amount for working and collaborating. In the rejuvenation and breathing areas, more natural light and areas of softness are created to allow for a comfortable but not overwhelming environment.

The second floor is connected to the first by a staircase that allows for a radial view of the activity on the first floor. The stair placement is in the “city” of the office, but when walking down the user can see the architecture that emulates the concept of the parti. This is where the occupant gets the feeling of the city and forest, while two distinct areas, coming together to form one geometry. The spaces are categorized as areas for focus, rejuvenation, interaction, and breathing. Focus and interaction are feelings injected into the city while the forest is a place to rejuvenate and breathe.
