MUSIC MODEL project one: design a space recreating music in a physical sense


Song: Gl贸s贸li Artist: Sigur Ros

The space is meant to establish a heightened sense of feeling. Those experiencing the space walk on plexi-glass walkways varying in height according to the pitch in the song. The higher the climb the more glass and less solid material. This is to match the song; a gradual emotional climb to a piercing climax, then the slow (elevator) ride down to a calm center, physically and emotionally. The end is a courtyard within to allow a sensation of tranquility.


A Laminated Glass walkway on the bottom two levels and one sheet of glass on the top level. (Walkway represents the pitch of the artist’s voice. It changes accordingly except at the top level, end of the song, where the voice is a constant high-pitch.) B Glass and Solid roof on each level. Glass/ sun exposure represents bass drum. (Song starts with steady bass drum and increases until there is no rests between, represented by having no solid roof at top level.)

C Walls follow the walkways/ pitch of the song. There are higher walls at the bottom level and a decrease in size, eventually to no walls as one climbs in levels. (Creates the excitement and thrill that the song portrays.) D Elevator from a sensationincreasing all glass top level to a calm inner courtyard. (Represents the piercing climax to a gradual calm to end the song.)

CHAIN PROCESS project two: process of evolution beginning with a gum wrapper chain


Process One: Tower Chain “As Long As You Are Tall�

The semester was based solely on the process of design. Starting with a gum wrapper, a chain was to be designed and then progressed. The progression mutated into a variety of forms and chains until mine finished as an ascending tower. The design is based off a coil of the previous chain and extends vertically through a rigid connection of materials. The materials consist of wood, plexi, copper, and aluminum with threaded rods and nuts.


Process Two: Book Shelf Twenty-Six Book Holder

The end to the process was to take elements of the previous chain and design a book holder. It was required that the book holder stand with the support of any wall. Elements taken from the tower chain were the ‘pod’ shape, an ascending behavior as well as the same material pallete of copper, glass, wood, and alluminum. The half-pod as a double layer coupled with the angle of ascension allow the structure to maintain balance as it leans against a surface.



PAV I L L I O N project three: design a pavillion imitating the studied architects


Pavillion Design Imitate Studied Architects: Mies, Corbusier, Wright Using the provided landscape the pavillion design draws on elements of Mies Van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, and Frank Lloyd Wright in my own context and style. The architects were studied and then imitated into the project. There is a varied interpretation of each; Mies’s less is more in the overall concept, Corbusier’s use of ramps and movement to get to each level, and for Wright a glorified cantilevel, incorporation into the site and an openess to the outside.

Pavillion Design Full-Scale Project

Inspiration was taken from my groups’ triangle modular system as I designed a pavillion based solely on triangles. The layout of the supports are two overlapping triangles forming a Star of David that creates balance. The center floating canopy consists of four triangles. The three triangles surrounding the center have a triangle rope pattern that carries down through the rope wall and into the ground. This stablizes and balances the centerpiece.




POOL HOUSE project five: use elements of a case study house to redesign a pool house


Pool House Design Case Study: A Richard Neutra House The case study pool house by Richard Neutra featured an orthogonal plan with a curved garden-wall. This irregular curved element wrapped the rectalinear plan and was mimicked in the redesigned pool house. It became an edge condition that enveloped the new design. To finish, the project was to be skinned in a manner of translucent or opaque. A translucent material was assigned to the curved elements in the project and opaque to the rectangular.




PRADA STORE project six: a prada store using fashion as the inspiration


Prada Store Design Inspiration: Prada’s Pixelated Dress Inspiration came from a Prada collection that focused on orthoganal and pixelated elements. The design provokes a playfulness of scale with various views into its mulitple levels and a voyeuristic nature. Those in the store are easily viewable from the outside and translucent changing rooms protrude the facades allowing shadows of those changing to be viewed. The concept is that the clientele of Prada are stylish, sexy and shop to be noticed.

Eixample Block Redesign Barcelona, Spain

During the semster abroad we were taught the city plan of Barcelona and looked at Cerdà’s Eixample block proposal for the city. We were to redesign Cerdà’s block to improve and have the Eixample district thrive, as well as appeal to a higher class of inhabitants. My Eixample block keeps a similiar design to the current, but creates a thriving multi-use community. The block had to include a certain about of square meters for housing, offices, academic, and retail.

My redesign of the Eixample block keeps a similar layout to the old, but creates a thriving multi-use community. The block becomes a double-ring and works in section to generate views, increase sun exposure and create special voids were activity and parks can take place. Circulation as well as ventilation happen between the double-ring. Interaction is created as residents, workers, and students, interact on a daily basis, through circulation as well as giving each group and any passerby the opportunity to view the activity of each other.

NEXUS BRIDGE project eight: design a new concept to what a bridge can be

Bridge Design Autodesk Maya Project

Inspiration was a biological nature. The main element is the pods that connect to the walkway and each other in an organic manner. The pods are translucent which allows these connections to be seen from the outside and gives the appearance of veins or the inside of an organism. Each pod is shaped to create space and allow for other functions like retail, or cafes, in order to make the bridge thrive. It becomes a destination and functions as more than just a crossing.

VITRA HOTEL project nine: a boutique hotel for the vitra campus in germany


Boutique Hotel Vitra Campus Weil am Rhein, Germany The hotel is to accomodate up to eight designers/architects that come to the Vitra Campus to design and work on their projects. It works as a site plan in four sections. Each section houses a different program for the hotel. Orbs were placed around the site according to their designated function. These main orbs were connected by smaller orbs and a membrane. Occupants can experience the hotel from the outside as they travel from each section of the hotel.

- design a fire station in college station


Firehouse No. 6 College Station, Texas

The firestation was first designed around the apparatus bay and function. There is an axis that runs from the bedrooms straight to the bay, in combination with the positioning and angle-of-exit of the bay, the perfomative aspects of the building are increased. Overall the design is four concrete trapazoids that are angled in positioning and height. They are connected and overlapped by orthoganal glass boxes. The glass boxes are always parallel to the street. This ss

heirarchy of concrete trapazoid to glass box is always followed. A separate function exsists in each trapazoid and glass box becomes the transition space. This spatial overlap becomes vital and is the design. When the overlap takes place the shapes still exsist within each other becoming the guide for cabinets, the kitchen island, etc. Firehouse No. 6 is left unpolished, supports are exposed and like the design finishings are true and raw. The aesthetics are unrefined.

Leon Design is an idea and project that I am working on. The interests are handmade humidors and in the near future furniture. Woodworking has always been one of my interests, but the plan is to expand to other materials and techniques as well. Carbon fiber fabrication and CNC fabrication are directions I am heading in to combine with my woodworking skills. The logo is an infinity lion, designed by me. It represents who and what I am as a designer. I design proud, bold, strong, without hesitation to be progressive and new, I design to be talked about and to be remembered.


Handmade Humidor Wood: Afzelia Burl

The Afzelia Burl was ordered online and arrived as a large burl. It was dimesioned into sheets by me and then into becoming the humidor. The dimensions of the humidor are 11� x 8.5� x 5�. Quarter-inch Spanish Cedar lines the inside to ensure a stable climate due to its high humidity absorbation, it also supports the cigar-aging process. Keys were installed at the corners for strength and a chemically treated copper veneer on the lid and backside. The wood was finished with danish oil and paste wax.
