Muskoka Steamships
R.M.S. Segwun: A Signature Experience
North America’s oldest operational steamship. In 1887 the R.M.S. Segwun was built in Glasgow, Scotland, and assembled in Gravenhurst. The ship was originally a side paddlewheel steamer named Nipissing II and served as connection - transporting passengers, mail, and freight from Muskoka Wharf in Gravenhurst to cottages, resorts and homes. In 1925, the ship was re-launched and given her Ojibwa name: Segwun, meaning ‘springtime’. The newly-outfitted steamer proved to be the fastest of the ships on the lakes, continuing her service to Canada Post and the many visitors in the area. In 1962, the RMS Segwun was converted into a floating maritime museum at The Gravenhurst Wharf and thus escaped deconstruction. www.realmuskoka.com

Canoeing and Kayaking Gull Lake Park (Novice) Parking is located at Bethune Drive and Bay Street. An excellent spot for day paddling on Gull Lake and longer trips into Silver Lake to the southeast. These smaller lakes provide calmer water conditions. Enjoy Gull Lake’s rocky cliffs, marshes and sand beach. Kahshe Lake (Novice) Parking is located on North Kahshe Lake Road. Kahshe Lake offers many shallow bays and scenic shorelines for canoe/kayak exploring. There is a great mix of beautiful cottages and green space on this lake. Be sure to wear bright clothing / P.F.D. so motorized boat operators can easily see you. Lake Muskoka Bay (Novice to Intermediate)
Parking is located on Bay Street west of Gravenhurst on Muskoka Bay.There is plenty of parking on or near the water and canoes or kayaks can be launched off of any of the public docks. Muskoka Bay gives day paddlers the option of sightseeing in the shelter of the bay or paddle northwest approx. 4km to the “Narrows”.The “Narrows” are the throughway to the open water of Lake Muskoka. Caution: westerly winds can produce bigger waves. Busy summer weekends also mean increased motor boat traffic in the bay.
20 20
Sunny Lake (Novice) Exit Doe Lake Road from Highway #11 and head east to Tomingas Road, turn right. Follow Tamingas Road for approx. 2.5 kms and watch for the nor thern tip of sunny lake on the left. Sunny Lake is a long, thin lake with a handful of cottages on the fir th shore and a smooth rolling rock shoreline to the southwest. Paddle to the ver y end of the lake and park your boat on the right side of the beaver dam and hike along the creek up to an amazing bird’s eye view of Three Mile Lake. Nine Mile Lake (Novice to Intermediate)
Approx. 10mins northwest of Gravenhurst on HWY #169 to Southwood road, turn left. Drive ~5km then turn right on Nine Mile Road. Nine Mile Lake offers a small lake feel with lots of big bays to explore. The very long, very thin bay that heads northwest has no cottages on it and has very little traffic. This bay also allows more seasoned paddlers the opportunity to portage into a chain of remote isolated lakes to the southwest. Watch for the portage on the left as you start your way up the northwest bay. Overnight trips into these lakes are a real treat.
Black River (Experienced) A beautiful river trip is located 20-30mins southeast of the Town of Gravenhurst. This route will require a vehicle shuttle. Park one vehicle at the finish point, which is #169 bridge over the Black River approx. 6km southeast of Washago. Then drive to the very end of Black River Road off of Coopers Falls Road. Park your second vehicle at Victoria Falls. This road can be very muddy in early spring. Some of the most stunning scenery in Muskoka can be viewed on this river. Before you start your trip down the river, take in the impressive Victoria Falls. A portage to the bottom of the falls is done via a trail on the south side of the river to carry around Ragged Rapids. Although a long portage, paddlers are rewarded with a great view of these powerful rapids at the trail’s highest point. The river carries you swiftly down to a short carry over around the majestic Coopers Falls. The rest of the Black River has a mix of calm flat sections and class 1 and 2 rapids. Find these locations on our Experience Gravenhurst Map! Look for this icon:

Cycling Playground Buckwallow Cycling Centre is the premier destination for mountain biking enthusiasts. The trail system is fantastic for all ages and abilities. Your adventure will begin in the parking lot. Great friendly service and some of the cleanest outhouses you will ever see. A beginner will feel comfortable as the main trails are nice and wide. If you are more adventurous, single track trails weave their way through the forest. These trails range in difficulty from easy (one hoof) to most difficult (five hoofs). Ride on the Canadian Shield at the Torrance Barrens. This landscape has been scoured by glaciers washing away soil. This process has left us with some incredible rock ridges to ride on. The trail system is a
series of loops ranging from 3-6 kms. Trails are marked with stone cairns, white paint on rocks and metal signs. to visit nhurst be sure ve ra G in n he W of the to get your copy p ho S e ik B he T g Route Muskoka Cyclin d an st ur nh ve ain Gra ines both mount Map which outl es. road biking rout

Muskoka Bay Golf When celebrated architect Doug Carrick and developer Peter Freed first walked the rugged Canadian Shield in Gravenhurst where the Muskoka Bay Club now sits, they were taken by rugged cliffs and long valleys that the glaciers carved away thousands of years ago. In particular, was a precipice where now sits the spectacular 17,000 square foot Clifftop Clubhouse. The Clubhouse provides a mix of old Muskoka grandeur combined with modern amenities, complete with casual and fine dining, fitness studio, steam rooms, spa treatments, tennis and the famous cliff side infinity edge pool overlooking the opening hole.
33
Awarded Best New Clubhouse by Fairways Magazine in 2009 it is an equally impressive start and finish to one of the worlds most spectacular golf courses. The Muskoka Bay Club’s golf course hit the golf world with a bang. Awarded Best New Course in Canada by Golf Digest & Score Golf Magazine in 2007 it has racked up the accolades and roared up the rankings in record fashion. It has been elevated to the 9th ranked course in Canada 2010-2014 and the Best Course You Can Play in Ontario 2009-2013 by Score Golf Magazine. For any golfer this club should be on their bucket list. In 2012 Marc Atchinson of Travellife Magazine had a chance to play the Muskoka Bay Club and he wrote - “This may be the best opening shot in Canadian golf, and Muskoka Bay only gets better from here... Muskoka Bay earns my vote as the prettiest golf course in North America”

Sawdust City Brewing Co. Located in the heart of Gravenhurst, Sawdust City Brewing Company is dedicated to the art and science of creating exceptional craft beers. We produce traditional ales in an array of styles, but there is nothing traditional about the flavour. Our award-winning brewmaster, Sam Corbeil, and his talented team create exciting beers that expand the borders of conventional flavour profiles. Our brewery building houses a stateof-the-art brewhouse and canning line, as well as a retail store and taproom called “The Saloon”. Packaged beer can be purchased at the store, and draught beer and other beverages can be enjoyed at The Saloon. Live music is featured every Saturday night, and brewery tours run regularly.
