Sorted recycling in clear bags can now be collected from roadside bins Blue Boxes cannot be placed inside roadside bins. Sorted, clear bags only. Sorted recycling cannot be buried under garbage bags. Both must be visible and stored side by side, not ontop of each other. Remember - sorted recycling in clear bags, garbage in solid coloured bags.

Curbside collection starts at 8:00 am

Waiting for your “usual” time will result in your materials being missed. There is no guarantee your materials will be collected at the same time each week. Drivers often have to change routes due to construction, weather, mechanical issues, or road issues. Please ensure material is at the curb no later than 8:00am.

CURBSIDE COLLECTION IN MUSKOKA

WEEKLY, YEAR-ROUND

WEEKLY, YEAR-ROUND

Garbage must be secured in a solid coloured, standard sized garbage bag. (No loose garbage inside cans.)

Recycling must be sorted to be collected. (See Page 2 for Recycling Sorting Guide)

The curbside Green Bin Organics Program is available to Urban Area residents.

Maximum weight (including can) must not exceed 55lbs (25kg).

Residents may use sorted Blue Boxes, any similar sized open container or plastic clear/transparent bags.

If using liners, use Certified Compostable liners as detailed on Page 3.

A garbage can or roadside animal proof bin is recommended to contain waste. Avoid putting unsecured waste at the curb; this invites animal encounters and litter.

Recycling that has not been rinsed of remaining food waste will contaminate loads and will be left behind.

Because of unforseen delays, trucks may be collecting until 8:00pm and arrival times are not guaranteed to be the same each collection day. Garbage must be properly contained until the trucks arrive.

Remember, sorted recycling is unlimited each week. Don’t overload your Blue Boxes (maximum weight must not exceed 55lbs); use a laundry basket, tote or cardboard box to contain sorted recyclables if you run out of room.

Material is manually dumped. Maximum weight (including Green Bin) must not exceed 55lbs (25kg) to ensure safe lifting. Only use an approved Green Bin. Other curbside containers may not be acceptable. Green Bins don’t need to be full to be collected, set them out each week, year-round.

HELPFUL GARBAGE

TIPS

Small bags containing waste (white kitchen or grocery bags) should be disposed of in a household sized solid garbage bag. If using a roadside bin to contain your bagged material, ensure the bin is in an approved position: it must be located no more than 5 meters from the travelled roadway, and be visible to the collection driver. Oversized construction bags cannot be collected, as they will not fit in the slot in the collection truck. Use only standard sized, solid coloured household garbage bags to contain waste.

HELPFUL

RECYCLING

TIPS

Recycling is now collected from inside roadside bins. Only clear or transparent bags can be used to store recycling in bins; this is to assist in safe lifting practices. Please do not place Blue Boxes inside of roadside bins. They will not be collected. If using Blue Boxes, place in a location where they are visible to the driver from the travelled roadway. Stack your Blue Boxes on top of one another at the curb. This will prevent material blowing away and creating litter.

HELPFUL GREEN BIN

TIPS

Green Bins should be placed beside garbage cans and Blue Boxes, visible to the driver from the travelled roadway. Residential Green Bin material can be delivered at no charge to: - Bracebridge (Rosewarne) Transfer Station - Gravenhurst (Beiers) Landfill - Huntsville (Stisted) Transfer Station - Port Carling (Eveleigh) Transfer Station or - Port Severn (Baxter) Transfer Station If located in the Rural Areas of Muskoka, consider purchasing a backyard composter to divert organic material from your garbage bag. Use your homemade compost to nourish your gardens, lawn, and more!

BLUE BOXES: Muskoka branded Blue Boxes are available for purchase at any Landfill or Transfer Station in Muskoka, or at the District of Muskoka Administration Building at 70 Pine Street in Bracebridge during normal operating hours. GREEN BINS: Muskoka branded Green Bins belong to the home, not the homeowner. Please leave them behind if you’re moving. If you have recently moved and do not have a Green Bin, please contact the District of Muskoka at 705-645-6764 for more information.
