Page 1

May 7, 2016 Saturday May 7, 2016 marks the second annual “National Wildfire Preparedness Day” in Canada – an event designed to draw community attention to the devestating effects that a wildfire can have on our homes and our environment. Muskoka is arguably one of the the most beautiful areas of Ontario, but living amongst the hardwood and coniferous trees and granite can present challenges too. The threat of a “wildfire” ranks high amongst the threats to community safety here – especially during prolonged hot, dry weather. You CAN protect your home and your family from this threat however. “FireSmart” is a educational program that provides a variety of helpful tips under the “prevention” theme. From being prepared, to site preparation and fire prevention measures, the “FireSmart” program can help to make you and our community more resilient to the effects of unwanted fires. Please take the time to review these materials, and importantly take the steps necessary to translate good intentions into action! Develop your own FireSmart Protection Plan for your property and an Emergency Action Plan for your family.
