As summer quickly continues on, so must our vigilance towards safety. While our focus may be on the remaining weeks of summer and vacation times, our focus on safe practises must be every bit kept on our minds as well. While it may be prime camping and recreational time for some, others may still be at home doing household work and assorted duties. Farmers will likely be busy in the fields bringing in hay and prepping for grain and soy bean harvesting. With all these activities taking place, it is not difficult to become somewhat complacent as the days wear on and the chores become more and more tedious. One area where we need to be attentive is the maintenance of equipment, moving parts, noise, dust and keeping them running with fuel. Keep in mind some of the following tips: 1. Be sure to allow the mowers, tractor engines, etc. to cool down before refueling them. 2. Be sure to place all caps back on to the containers after use and clean up any spills with sand or kitty litter. 3. Store fuel containers in an outside shed or detached garage, not indoors.

The Municipal Election is October 24, 2022. Do you know who’s running in your community? Use the Muskoka Votes Map to find your candidates for Mayor, District, and Ward Councillors:

4. Do not store the containers near any source of heat or open flame. 5. Be sure to exercise the “NO SMOKING” rule when refueling your equipment. 6. Do not overfill fuel tanks as expansion can take place. Whatever your activities during this time may be, enjoy and be safe!
