St. Spyridon College Masterplan Design Studio 6 _ 2016 Semester 2 Course Convenor: Paola Favaro Lecturer: Angelo Candalepas Individual Project
St Spyridon College is a Greek Orthodox school situated in Kingsford, Sydney. The college includes pre-school, kindergarten, primary school and secondary school. This project aims to accommodate these programs together as a single community, which holds to around 1,500 students. The existing St. Spyridon Church is the symbol of the college yet it operates independently for Sunday services and wedding ceremonies. The concept of the masterplan is a strong coherent force that is manifested through magnetic attraction. The scheme is precisely designed to establish a highly connected campus through the orientation of the buildings. The buildings are wrapping around the church to retain the strong coherent force within the community whilst giving the church adequate space to breathe and to operate independently.
Coherent Force Coherent force releases from the centre of the site, then retained by the surrounding campus building.
Street Presence A friendly and engaging street presence enhances interaction with public, creating a welcoming entrance.
The Bridge It serves as a shared library space and also bridges the gap along Day Lane to further unify the whole campus as a one community.
Magnetic Attraction Building facades are interlocking to symbolise the north and south poles of magnets, which establishes a strong magnetic attractions amond buildings
Program The campus is designed to establish a hierarchy of different age groups. Hence each age group has their own private space without compromising a sense of community.

Student Accommodation in Randwick Design Studio 5 _ 2016 Semester 1 Course Convenor / Lecturer: John Gamble Individual Project
Situated in a quiet suburb of Sydney, the Randwick Student Accommodation is part of the UNSW Residential Community. The residence accommodates a total of 20 university students, with the options of single or shared rooms. This project started off with the investigation of the site and various human situations, then multiple proposals were presented to accommodate the identified site conditions and human situations. Later in the semester, these proposals were combined to form the final proposal shown below, which is refined to encourage the best quality of human situations.
Kiosk, Bicycle Workshop and Gallery Design Studio 2 _ 2014 Semester 2 Course Convenor / Lecturer: Maryam Gusheh Individual Project
Woolloomooloo is a vibrant suburb located next to Sydney CBD. Bicycle is a common means of transport in the suburb, so this project aims to provide a place for the community to repair their bicycles, to gather and to appreciate art. The bicycle workshop is facing the kiosk/cafe to create a sense of vibrancy as people entering and leaving. The gallery building is located on the upper part of the site to create a slightly quieter environment for the appreciation of artworks, with its own entrance for efficient transportation of artworks. Moreover, the courtyard allows people to rest and to feel the vibrancy of Woolloomooloo.
Experimental Art Foundation Design Studio 4 _ 2015 Semester 2 Course Convenor / Lecturer: Ainslie Murray Individual Project
The Experimental Art Foundation is located in Waverton, North Sydney. The site was once a coal loading port until the 1970s, since then the coal loader and the wharf were abandoned. This masterplan project involves the heavy alteration of the coal loader and the wharf, the two initially unrelated structures are now reconnected to serve as the hub of experimental art, with laboratories, exhibition and performance spaces within. Moreover, sightseeing trails are designed to connect the upper and lower site, replacing the old long staircases, so visitors can be more engaged with the natural elements of the site. Other facilities such as bookstore, cafe and receptions are on the upper site.
