The Sermon You Live One day, Jesus faced a very interes ng ques on. It came from his cousin, John the Bap st. By now, Jesus was fully engaged in his ministry and people were responding. However, John the Bap st, whose whole ministry had been to prepare the way for the long awaited Messiah, sat in a prison cell. Ini ally, John was convinced that Jesus was the Promised One, but in light of John’s situa on doubts began to weave their way into his thinking. So, true to his nature, John decided to be direct. He sent disciples to Jesus to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?” In response, Jesus told John’s disciples to return to him and tell him what they witnessed: that the blind were now seeing, the crippled were now walking, people with skin diseases were cleansed, the deaf were hearing, the dead were raised, and the poor had good news preached to them. (Ma hew 11:2‐5) Reading that this week, I was again reminded that the strength of our witness lie not just in the things we say; but also in the things we do. Adam Hamilton calls it, “The sermon you live.” On Saturday, October 22, we will be having our Great Day of Service. The Great Day of Service is an annual half‐day event that begins with breakfast at 8:00 a.m. with projects running un l 1:00 p.m., in which the members of DUMC witness to Christ by engaging in a variety of mission projects and going out into the community to help enhance life for others. This year, we have a total of 45 projects from which you can choose to par cipate. Many will be projects we have done in the past: Stop Hunger Now, landscaping for local schools, City of Refuge, etc... Four new projects include: Habitat Brush with Kindness (We are actually going back to the very first house we built and doing some pain ng and upda ng); Campbell Stone Re rement Center; Sharon UMC; and Wesley Woods. I want to encourage you this morning to take the me to register for one of the projects. People will be available in the side narthex and in the lobby of the Ac vi es Building to answer your ques ons. If you choose, you can register online. Remember, the strength of our witness … and that of this church… is not just in the things we say, but in the sermon we live. Blessings, Dan
