Psalm 118 #839

Holy Baptism

Jace Henry Hamner, Molly Anne Hamner

Prayer of Thanksgiving Loving God: We praise you for all that your Son said and did on this day long ago during the last week he was to spend on earth: for his humility, which preferred service to kingship; for his quiet courage before his enemies; for his touching sorrow over the great city he so deeply loved and pitied; for his gifts of bread and wine to be shared in remembrance of the gift of his life; for his complete humanity and vulnerability in Gethsemane and on Calvary. By the example of your gracious Son, teach us, Father, to accept hosannas gratefully but with due skepticism, and to stand by our commitments and convictions bravely when enemies scream for our heads. Keep us in such close communion with our Lord that neither undue good fortune nor painful misfortune will be able to dismay us nor weaken our loyalty to him who forgave his foes and never let down his friends. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.
