DYNAMIC DUNWOODY UMC According to the Merriam Webster dic onary, the word, “dynamic” has to do with… “always being ac ve or changing.” It has to do with “having or showing a lot of energy.” It implies things like being vigorously ac ve, energe c, evolving, thriving, and progressive. Given that defini on you don’t have to look any further than DUMC to see a dynamic church. There are a lot of exci ng and dynamic things happening within the life of the Church right now. For example, next week we will start our new Sunday schedule. It is as follows: Contemporary Service ‐ 8:45 a.m. Morning Prayer and Communion Service ‐ 8:45 a.m. Sunday School ‐ 9:55 a.m. Tradi onal Service ‐ 11:05 a.m. This new schedule is going to make it possible for families to worship together, the clergy to be in (and even teach) Sunday School on a more regular basis, Sunday School class members to choose which worship services they want to a end, help create a greater sense of unity in our congrega on and enhance all of our worship services. Obviously, this is a huge transi on for the Church and the leadership has tried to think of every issue, concern, and challenge the Church might face. However, there will undoubt‐ edly be a few things we have overlooked. Please let us know what they are, and once you have told us, we ask that you be pa ent with us as we a empt to work through those ma ers. Throughout the month of August, we are also going to be in a series of sermons en tled, “This Is Us.” Who are we? What is our iden ty here at Dunwoody United Methodist Church? What are some of the values we hold dear? Who do we believe Christ is calling us to be? We will be dealing with a few of the subjects that answer some of these ques‐ ons. I hope you will make every effort to be present. Be er yet, let me encourage you to invite a friend. Let me also remind you that on Sunday, August 13, we will be having “Backpack Sunday.” As the children and teachers go back to school, we want to take some me to pray for them. At a designated me in the service, the children will be invited to bring their back‐ packs up to the altar of the Church and together we will offer prayers asking God to be at work in their lives and in the lives of their teachers throughout the year ahead. It is going to be a meaningful service, and I want to encourage all the parents to make a special effort to be at either the Contemporary or Tradi onal Service. As I say, this is a dynamic me in the life of our Church. As we begin this new season, we have some special plans in store. You won’t want to miss it. Blessings,

Anthem How Tedious and Tasteless the Hours Early American Hymntune Hugh Winn, tenor
9:00: Ken Rice – Head Usher, Dick Foote, Sid Linton, Jack McLaughlin, Ed Moncrief, Bill Schuh, Len Sheppard
How tedious and tasteless the hours when Jesus no longer I see! Sweet prospects, sweet birds and sweet flow’rs have all lost their sweetness to me. The midsummer sun shines but dim, the fields strive in vain to look gay; but when I am happy in Him December’s as pleasant as May.
10:30: Wade Hatcher – Head Usher, Meredith Barclay, Bill Benston, Janna Benston, Jennifer Burns, Press Hall, Greg Hammer, Cindy Hatcher
His name yields the richest perfume, and sweeter than music. His voice; his presence disperses my gloom, and makes all within me rejoice. I should, were He always thus nigh have nothing to wish or to fear; no mortal so happy as I; my summer would last all the year.
Content with beholding His face, my all to His pleasure resigned; no changes of season or place, would make any change in my mind. While blessed with a sense of His love, a palace a toy would appear; and prisons would palaces prove, if Jesus would dwell with me there.
My Lord, if indeed I am Thine, if Thou art my sun and my song, say, why do I languish and pine? And why are my winters so long? Oh, drive these dark clouds from the sky, thy soul‐cheering presence restore; or take me to Thee up on high, where winter and clouds are no more.
